Chappell Roan Debuts New Song on ‘SNL’ and Fulfills 13-Year-Old Dream
Chappell Roan joined the ranks of pop stars who have given iconic musical moments on Saturday Night Live with two electric performances tonight.
The “Good Luck Babe” singer, who skyrocketed to fame following the release of her 2023 album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, surprised fans when she began singing a brand-new country-tinged song called "The Giver" for her second set of the night.
Decked out in a hoedown-chic ensemble, the powerhouse vocalist belted out the lines, “Baby, I deliver/ Ain’t no country for a quitter/ I get the job done!” amid a jamboree of fiddles and cartoon critters seemingly straight out of Dollywood.
In a subtle dig at traditional male-centric country, the song's bridge says, "All you country boys saying you know how to treat a woman right / Well only a woman knows how to treat a woman right.”
The rising pop star's SNL appearance fulfills a promise she made to herself 13 years ago.
Earlier this week, she shared a screenshot of a Facebook post from 2011 where her 13-year-old self, using her birth name Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, wrote, “I am determined to be on SNL.”
It looks like dreams can come true because she showcased her unmatched vocals in two unforgettable performances on Saturday Night Live tonight.
The Facebook post is reminiscent of a tweet Ariana Grande posted in 2011 where the “We Can’t Be Friends” singer publicly stated her interest in playing the role of Glinda in the musical Wicked. Seems like these pop divas have the secret manifestation figured out!
The “Pink Pony Club” crooner rose in popularity during the summer of 2024 when her songs “Good Luck Babe” and “Hot to Go” took over TikTok and Instagram in a viral social media storm, and broke records for crowd sizes at massive festivals like Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza where an estimated 110,000 people were in attendance. And while this is the first time the “Femininominon!” has appeared on the hit sketch show, it’s certainly not the first time she’s been mentioned.
