Cass Thorburn set to rival the Today show with new TV gig

She may have just been booted off Dancing With The Stars, but this is just the beginning of Cassandra Thorburn’s television career comeback.

The 47-year-old is set to join the ranks of Australian TV’s morning personalities on a regular basis, a slot which was once dominated by her ex-husband Karl Stefanovic on the Today show.

“I’ll be working with Studio 10 on a more regular guest basis so that will be great,” the mother of three tells Yahoo Lifestyle.

Channel Ten’s Studio 10 program, which starts at 8:30am, overlaps with Today and Today Extra on rival network, Nine.

At the end of last year, Karl Stefanovic was axed from the Today show, before Deborah Knight was announced as his replacement to co-host alongside Georgie Gardner.

Since then there have been mixed reactions to two females leading the breakfast show, all the while Studio 10 features a panel of usually five presenters – Sarah Harris and Joe Hildebrand and additional rotating guests, either male or female.

“It’s great and opens the opinions of more experienced women, I guess, that are around my ilk,” Cass says of her upcoming Studio 10 opportunity, while acknowledging Today also has two women at the forefront.

“I think it’s really good to have it on TV, it’s great.”

Cass’ dancing journey came to an end on Monday night when she was eliminated from Dancing With The Stars.

“I’m just really happy people supported me and kept me here for as long as they did, and made me feel really special,” she said on the show.

“It was like a big hug from the public after a troublesome couple of years.”

Following her and ex Karl Stefanovic’s split in 2016, Cass shied away from the public gaze until appearing on DWTS.

Karl and Cass were married for 21 years before separating nearly three years ago in September. They share three children together – Jackson, 19, Ava, 13, and River, 12.

Towards the end of the year 44-year-old Karl started dating 34-year-old fashion designer Jasmine Yarbrough, and the couple tide the knot in December 2018.
