Caravanning family's 'genius' Bunnings solution for Aussie summer issue: 'Great idea'
There's a simple way to keep cool in peak summer while travelling around the country.
With Australia facing one of the hottest summers on record, we are all on the hunt for ways to be able to stay cool without running up massive air conditioning bills or becoming hermits who never leave the perfectly temperature-controlled bliss of our homes. While not melting to death is easy from the comfort of a house or office, it's slightly more challenging when you're on the road on a camping or caravanning adventure.
Sure, you can set up shop near a lake or at a beachfront caravan park, but what happens when you need to come out of the water to have dinner or enjoy a vino as you watch the sunset? One caravanning family, who have been sharing their adventures for the last two years may have the perfect solution and all it involves is a trip to Bunnings.
Lani from The Hyde Five, who are travelling Australia full time in their caravan, recently shared the Bunnings find on TikTok, singing the praises of both it and her husband.
Simple Bunnings hack for staying cool in Summer
"Marry a guy that puts a little misting kit on the awning for you, so when it's near 40 degrees you're not too hot," she says. "Honestly, run don't walk to Bunnings. This thing is so good."

The product in question is the Holman 7m Misting Kit With SwapLock Fittings, which promises a "super easy installation" and to "transform your patio area to a great entertainment area during the hot summer months."
"It lets off literally the perfect amount of spritz," Lani says in the video. "Not too much to drown you, but just enough to wet you. Enough so you are moist."
Bunnings shoppers rave about summer hack
"Camping before Christmas was super hot hubby was like I am going to hook up a misting kit," one of her followers wrote. "He’ll be at Bunnings this week before we go away for the weekend 😂"
"That's genius," someone else said.
"I have one on my pergola that wets down shade cloth," another added. "The breeze that comes through the cloth is so cool."
A similar comment read, "Put up Hessian sheets and face the mist toward it. Breeze blows through it and can cool an open-air space as much as 14C. Works like evaporative air-conditioning. You don't get wet at all 😉"
Others shared that they loved the idea and were off to Bunnings to get a misting kit for themselves.
"Thank you what a great idea we’re getting one," was another comment on the video.
Lani also shared another video demonstrating which pump they use for the mist kit, explaining that the digital timer (also from Bunnings) allows you to choose how often you want to be spritzed.
Bunnings product not just for caravanners
Now, if you're not a camping/caravan kinda person but are still looking for a way to not overheat this summer while still enjoying some time outside, the $30 mister can work just as well in your home.
"My hubby did that on our patio. It’s great 👏," one person shared on Lani's video.
"Even better when they put it on the back alfresco of your house. How good are husbands like this 👏," another added.
