'Outlander' Actor Dies at 59

Scottish actor Brian McCardie, who previously appeared on the hit show Outlander, has sadly died. He was 59.

According to his sister, Sarah McCardie, Brian died "suddenly" while at his home on Sunday, April 28. A cause of death has not been disclosed publicly at this time.

His sister took to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, April 30 to share a heartfelt message in memory of her late brother, announcing the devastating news by writing, "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brian James McCardie (59), beloved son, brother, uncle and dear friend to so many."

"A wonderful and passionate actor on stage and screen, Brian loved his work touched many lives," Sarah continued in the post, noting that her sibling "is gone much too soon."

"We love him and will miss him greatly," she added. "Please remember Brian in your thoughts. Funeral arrangements will be announced in the days ahead."

"As a family, we would ask for privacy at this time," she concluded her note, before following it up with a series of hashtags, including one that read "#GoneButNeverForgotten."

McCardie, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, was recognized for appearing in an episode of Outlander in 2015, where he played Sir Marcus MacRannoch. He also portrayed crime lord Tommy Hunter in three episodes of Line of Duty, appearing on the British police procedural in 2012 and again in 2014.

His other TV credits include Time, Rebellion, M.I. High, Fortitude, Crime, The Last Czars, Murder is Easy and many, many more, per IMDB. McCardie had also been filming Starz' new Outlander prequel, Blood of My Blood, which is currently in production.

His talent agency, United Agency, addressed the news of the actor's passing on Tuesday, writing in a statement, per Deadline, "We are shocked and so deeply saddened by the tragic news of McCardie's sudden death. He was an actor of such great talent who we were lucky to represent, and our thoughts are very much with his family and friends at this difficult time."
