Bluey fans spot hidden detail which finally answers major question

Ever since Bluey premiered six years ago, the Aussie animated TV series has been filled with hilarious, heartwarming and truly fascinating easter eggs for viewers to spot. From X-rated details to secret hidden messages, older Bluey fans love keeping their eye out for clever background catches that would largely go unnoticed by its younger fanbase.

While the show’s writers are yet to confirm a fourth season after season three wrapped up in April, 20 shorts under the title of ‘Minisodes’ have recently been produced. The first seven dropped in June, the next seven were released this month, and the final six shorts are set to come out at the end of the year.

Fans on social media have been going wild following the release of the ‘Minisodes’, not just because they get to see more adventures with their favourite TV family but because one of their long-time questions has finally been answered.

How old is Bluey's dad Bandit?

While it’s known that Bluey is seven-years-old and her younger sister Bingo is five as they’ve both celebrated birthdays on the show, people have always wondered how old their father Bandit is.

He revealed in the season three episode ‘Fairytale’ that he was 10 during the 1980s, however, one of the ‘Minisodes’ titled ‘Browny Bear’ features Bandit’s exact date of birth on his driver’s licence. The licence says that his birthday is October 25 1978, and also reveals the card was issued on September 5 2022 and will expire on October 6 2025.

If the Bluey timeline lines up with the real-world timeline, then that would make him 45 years old today. However, it's unknown exactly what year the series is set as it premiered in October 2018 and both Bluey and Bingo have only aged one year since then.

Seeing as Bandit’s driver's licence was issued in 2022 and will expire next year, it’s safe to assume that the ‘Minisodes’ are set in the present day.

Interestingly, Bandit has the same birthday as the voice actor who portrays him, David McCormack. The musician and actor was born 10 years before Bandit on October 25 1968.

Bandit’s middle name ‘Custard’ is also a nod to David’s indie rock band of the same name, which he formed in Brisbane in 1989 and continues releasing music and touring with today.

Plenty of fans were surprised by the discovery of Bandit’s birthday and the fact that he and Chilli - assuming they’re the same age - are “older parents”.

“Wow, I assumed they would have made him much younger for that age of kids. Nope, he’s older than I am,” one person wrote, while another added, “I always kind of figured they were older parents.”

“I’m encouraged. As someone who didn’t have kids until 36 I rarely see dads older than me,” someone else shared, followed by a different user who said, “I knew it! Bandit and Chilli are older parents like my little fam. Love it”.

“Just imagine what his age is in dog years,” one fan joked.
