Bachelor's Florence shares brutal opinion on new season: 'No offence'

The fan-favourite contestant didn't hold back.

Former Bachelor star Florence Alexandra has slammed the new season of the reality show and shared her brutal opinions on the three leads Felix Von Hofe, Jed McIntosh and Thomas Malucelli.

The 33-year-old, who came fourth on Matty J’s season in 2017 and has since made three appearances on Bachelor in Paradise across Australia and the US, tells Yahoo Lifestyle that she isn’t a fan of the new format and misses the “old” version of the dating series.

“I don't understand why they had to change the concept so much with the super modern mansion, the three Bachelors, and even the styling,” she says. “The girls are wearing a lot more casual stuff to rose ceremonies, and the dates have had a budget cut I believe.

“I don't know where the budget went, but I went on a chopper like four times on The Bachelor and Bachelor in Paradise. It was chopper galore, but I haven't seen a chopper once!”

Florence says her main concern with the show’s dramatic shake-up is that “there’s no going back”, so it will be difficult for the series to continue if it is renewed for an eleventh season.

“We're never going to go back to the fairytale mansion we used to know,” she adds. “I had really good experiences with the production and I used to think highly of them, but now I'm like, did you hire new people? Or what's this decision-making? Because you know how to produce a good show.

“Also, the whole sexual aspect this season is something that we never had and I think it was part of the charm of the show. It was kind of like ‘no sex before marriage’ and we focused on the connection. Now it’s just a bit sleazy, and I have a feeling that this is the reason why the relationships are probably not going to stand the test of time.”

'Not for me'

Florence went on to say that she’s not sure if the show works with three Bachelors because “we don't really get to connect with them”.

“I think they should stick with a Matty J or a Tim Robards, and just build on that,” she remarks. “If something is not working, change certain aspects of the show but don't just change the whole format.”

She continues: “I think Thomas is the only classic proper Bachelor as we know it. I am very impressed with him. I think the reason why he's such a good Bachelor is that he has done the personal growth and he has done the work. His wild days are behind him, he knows who he is and he knows what he's looking for.

“When it comes to Jed, he is growing on me. I think he's a sweetheart… I think he is a little bit young and a little bit wounded, which is okay. No offence to Jed as a person but I wonder if he is at that stage in life where you're ready to do these kinds of things. I wonder if he has figured it all out yet. I don't think so.”

As for former professional basketball player Felix, Florence says she has no idea why he was cast as the Bachelor.

“No offence, he seems like a nice dude, he’s good-looking, but he's not Bachelor material,” she explains. “The things he's saying, it’s just super inappropriate if you ask me. For a Bachelor, you want someone like Thomas, someone who is a true gentleman. That's the whole concept.

“Felix would do better on MAFS... I think he picked the wrong show, or the wrong show picked him, so to say.”

When asked what she would have done if she was cast in this year's season, Florence admits she probably would've left on night one.

“I think these three guys are pretty eccentric in their own way, so it has to be your cup of tea,” she shares. “I think Felix is the most mainstream, but he has the behaviour of an 18-year-old. So yeah, not for me.”
