Bachelor stars reveal the next season's success is 'almost impossible'

Channel Ten surprised fans and contestants of The Bachelors when they decided to push the release date to 2023 after it was originally slated to appear on screens this month.

The new format will see three Bachelors, Jed McIntosh, Felix Von Home, and Thomas Malucelli, looking for love, with the show moving from Sydney to the Gold Coast.

Now, former Bachelor stars Laura Byrne and Brittany Hockley have shared their thoughts on the new season and whether or not any couples will be successful.

Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle last week for the release of their new book We Love Love, Laura and Brittany revealed that they think it's "almost impossible" for any of the couples to stay together now the show has been pushed.

"I think it's a shame, and a shame for several reasons," Laura told us. "The big one is, if they weren't going to show it until next year, then I don't think they should have done all the pre-promotion, which obviously wasn't a well thought out thing – I don't think they intended on pushing it back [originally].

"But by doing that, by doing all the pre promotion, by publicising who the Bachelors are going to be, by recording it this side of the year and then having them push it out to next year – it just really, really makes any successful relationships that have come off the back of that show, it makes it so challenging for them to actually work out."

"Almost impossible," Brittany added, agreeing with Laura.

"Yeah, they have to keep it a secret and you know, we know long distance is hard, but doing long distance, which is completely a secret as a Bachelor couple, is incredibly hard because you cannot see each other and you can't just sneak over to each other's houses."

She continued, "There's this huge responsibility on you to keep the secret. And I think that that has a massive toll on some relationships. For Matt [Johnson] and I it was five months, so we had six months where we had to keep our relationship private."

"Which is so long!" Brittany chimed in.

"But for these Bachelors, it's going to be a year. And that, I think, it's too much pressure for any relationship."

The Bachelor contestants 'furious' with decision to postpone show

It comes after Yahoo Lifestyle revealed the move to postpone the show angered multiple contestants, who don’t want to "keep their lives on hold anymore".

A source says: "It's been four months since the show was filmed and the contestants who didn’t find love aren’t allowed to publicly date, freely use their social media accounts or talk about the experience until it’s aired on TV - but this might not be for another six months.

"They’re furious and just want to move on and refuse to keep their lives on hold."

New Bachelor contestant Tash Candyce has already become active on Instagram, captioning a snap: "I’m back."

A TV insider also tells Yahoo Lifestyle that "this feels like the final nail in the coffin to The Bachelor franchise".

Jed, a 25-year-old drummer and songwriter, was seen "approaching girls" at a party in Sydney in August, with a source telling Yahoo Lifestyle, "He seemed very single."

Thomas, the 35-year-old restaurant manager, meanwhile, has been spotted on the dating app Hinge.

The Bachelor leads are especially required to keep a low profile on social media until the show airs, with a Channel Ten spokesperson telling us, "This is an old account that was set up last year and hasn't been used since being cast on The Bachelors Australia," they said. "I wouldn't read too much into it."
