The Bachelor 2023: Everything you need to know
The Bachelor will premiere on Monday, January 9 on Channel 10 and 10 Play.
The Bachelor will be back on our screens in the new year and we can't wait to watch while we finish off all those festive delights. It's not going to be the same old The Bachelor you're used to seeing though.
How is this season different?
Channel 10 is shaking up the franchise in 2023 with a number of changes intended to breathe a bit more life into the show. The first major change is there are going to be three bachelors.
The three already have engagement rings they're ready to offer to their chosen suitors, but judging by the trailer it isn't all smooth sailing as the ladies take control and one Bachelor even cops a knock-back at the rose ceremony.
It seems the show is also getting steamier, offering fantasy suites in the Aussie show for the first time. "My bestie is auditioning for Bachelor and has made it through to the next round," an insider explained on the So Dramatic podcast. "Best news, apparently this year there will be fantasy suites."
The "fantasy suites" are luxurious rooms Bachelors can invite their dates to for private overnight stays, without cameras, producers or crews following them. They have been a mainstay of the US show, but this is the first time they will feature in Australia.
So who are the Bachelors?
Standing at an impressive 6 feet, 6 inches tall, 27-year-old Victorian marketing manager and family man Felix Von Hofe is craving face-to-face connection, hopefully with someone who can make him laugh.
"For me, the most attractive quality a girl can have is a good sense of humour. My dream date would be anything where it ends up hurting to laugh, because if we’re both laughing the whole time then it can't get much better," Felix said.
Hailing from Sydney, 35-year-old restaurant manager Thomas Malucelli is a hopeless romantic. Born in a small town outside Florence in Italy, meditation and practising mindfulness might be up there with his favourite past-times, but Thomas is also a self-confessed adrenaline junkie and outdoorsman. Describing himself as loyal and motivated, Thomas is looking for a woman who is confident, honest and a great communicator.
"The idea of finding the love of my life in a context that is so out of my comfort zone really excites me," Thomas said.
Last but certainly not least, is 25-year-old Mood Monroe lead drummer and songwriter, Jed McIntosh, from Victoria. The rocker, who many fans are describing as a Machine Gun Kelly lookalike, might convey a tough boy persona, but underneath his impressive body art, is a sensitive man with a very big heart. Proud to stand out from the crowd, Jed’s looking for a woman who is confident, passionate, empathetic, and ready to commit.
"A woman willing to find love on a public platform is the confidence I need in a partner," Jed said.
The contestants
Despite Channel 10 remaining tight-lipped about the 30 ladies taking part, a few of the contestants have already been uncovered by the Daily Mail Australia. They are said to include a Miss Universe contender, a Disney princess impersonator and a fashion model.
Where was it filmed?
This year's Bachelor was filmed on the glitzy Gold Coast. The main location is a five-bedroom property for the ladies, and there's a three-bedroom house for the bachelors. While some have said the Bachelor mansion is in Broadbeach Waters, others are convinced it's actually in Helensvale. Channel 10 says it's a Hollywood-esque-style mansion that exudes luxury from all angles, complete with a resort-style swimming pool, open fireplace, cinema room and wet bar.
When was filmed and when will it air?
Locals spotted The Bachelor being filmed in May this year around the Gold Coast and each season usually takes a couple of months to film. The new season starts January 9 at 7:30pm on 10 and 10 Play.
Why has it been delayed?
An insider revealed that the delay in airing the show was done to promote a new reality dating show the network had launched.
"Ten have made the call to delay the show until early 2023 so they can focus on promoting The Real Love Boat," the source told the Daily Mail.
"I don't see them airing reality dating shows back-to-back and there's only 10 ratings weeks left... they would rather hold it and give it the publicity it needs."
The Bachelor will premiere on Monday, January 9 on Channel 10 and 10 Play.
