Aussie star reveals surprising item used in romantic proposal: 'I had to spend three months salary'

TV and radio star Andy Lee and his girlfriend of a decade, Rebecca ‘Bec’ Harding, got engaged on May 1st, 2024 - much to the delight of fans of the adorable couple. Sharing the news on Instagram the happy couple joked, "People keep saying we’ve rushed into this but we don’t care what people say! 💍."

Now Andy has opened up about the romantic moment on The Fox’s Fifi, Fev & Nick revealing for the first time the sweet detail in the proposal that was a callback to how he met his future bride ten years ago. In classic Andy style, there was, of course, a bit of comedy involved.

“Well, I’d waited for 10 years for Bec to propose – and I thought, ‘Bloody hell… I’m just going to have to do it,'" he laughed to the hosts.

He continued, “The hard thing is most people went, ‘About bloody time,’ there was no congratulations, just yelling and (asking) why didn’t you do it earlier.”

The Hundred host then went on to share exactly how he asked Bec to marry him and the way he incorporated a sentimental (and hilarious) item.

“I proposed with a napkin," he explained. "So, when I first met Bec, in a café, she was a waitress, and she was busy and I wrote a nap on a napkin. I left my email address (on the napkin), which she didn’t like, but I just said, ‘If you have a boyfriend, just tell him that I’m using you to get to him. I bet he’s handsome.’

"So, in the morning, I’d actually gone back to the same café, gotten the same napkin again, and I had written, ‘If you’ve got a husband, just tell him that I’m using you to get to him. I bet he’s handsome.’ And, I proposed with the napkin, which she loved."

"Hamish said I had to spend three months salary on the napkin," he laughed.

Andy and Bec began dating in 2014. While the pair briefly split up after 18 months together, they rekindled their relationship and have been happily together ever since. The couple are fur-parents to adorable Welsh terrier, Henrietta (Henri for short).
