It's often a piece of jewellery that's one of a woman's proudest possessions—an engagement ring—but one bride's ring has gone viral for all the wrong reasons, facing an onslaught of savage online criticism. The "1.25 ct solitaire marquise diamond ring", listed for $3,700 on Facebook Marketplace, was reposted to a wedding shaming community where it quickly became the subject of intense scrutiny and mockery.

The ring, featuring a marquise diamond in a bold setting, has not been received well, to say the least. One user joked, “Yeah, that’s 1.25 ct, and since we’re claiming outrageous lies, I’m 120 pounds.” The scepticism about the ring's value and design continued with another quip: “Imagine how many times she will catch it on the toilet seat when having a wipe.”

“This might be the worst one yet,” another person commented on the image.

Others envisioned the ring’s impracticality with clothing. “No sweater would ever be safe from being snagged,” someone noted. Another added, “A ring for the woman who hates every sweater she owns.”

The critiques didn’t stop there. One blunt comment likened the ring to a rather unsightly medical condition: “This looks like an external haemorrhoid.”

Another exclaimed, “WTF! This pic just scratched my eye!” The ring's unique design also inspired a jab at DIY efforts: “It’s from the ‘I designed it myself’ collection.”

“This would have to be one of the ugliest rings I’ve ever seen,” another person said, adding, “I’d honestly call this a Frankenstein ring. It’s truly atrocious. I could never wear this proudly on my finger; I’d be wanting to hide it.”

Speculation about the ring's origin also emerged. “I’m assuming someone made it themselves, either because they wanted it to have sentimental value or because they’re cheap. I don’t know…but no one wants that atrocity.”

Someone else quipped, “When you order your big flashy diamond from Temu.”

“Not only is it super ugly, but the diamond is also mounted on an angle which makes it even uglier.”

The size and potential danger of the ring also descended into utter mockery: “Could you imagine getting backhanded by that thing?

That’s not a ring, that’s a self-defence tool!” Another laughed, “Minimum manslaughter charges.”

The final, brutal takedown summed up the collective sentiment: “Not only is that ring ugly as f*ck, but it’s also classified as a dangerous weapon in at least 10 states. What blind, aesthetically inept monster created this?”

While engagement rings are meant to be a symbol of love and commitment, this particular piece has certainly sparked an entirely different kind of conversation. Whether it’s a case of personal taste gone wrong or a misjudged custom design, the internet has made its verdict loud and clear.
