With just four episodes left in the show’s run, Monday’s fall finale of 9-1-1: Lone Star (Fox, 8/7c) presents an intriguing opportunity for Rob Lowe’s character. After telling the mayor of Austin to kiss his butt, Owen assumes he’s being fired — but as you’ll see in TVLine’e exclusive sneak peek, it’s quite the opposite.

In the clip below, Owen is greeted by the daughter of a former colleague in New York. She already held Owen in high regard, but after seeing how he and the 126 fought to get Tommy’s cancer treatment covered by the department, he’s basically a god in her eyes.
“We all saw what you did, standing up for your brothers and sisters down here,” she tells him. “That’s the kind of fight we need from our next fire chief. … He’s retiring next month, which is why I’m here. Captain Strand, we want you to come home, to become the next fire chief of New York City.”

And this is just one of several dramatic developments in the fall finale, which also finds Carlos confronting Ranger Campbell over accusations that he may have been involved in Carlos’ father’s murder. (Spoiler alert: Peyton List guest stars as Campbell’s wife Ashley.) After the fall finale, 9-1-1: Lone Star returns on Monday, Jan. 20 with its final three episodes. Its series finale airs on Feb. 2.
