Yahoo Lifestyle 12 Superhero Movies And Shows Coming Out This Year That I’m Soooo Excited For
I may be in the minority of movie and TV viewers who still enjoy watching superhero stories, but I'm excited about what's in store for 2025. With the MCU transitioning from Phase 5 to Phase 6, and James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe taking flight, it's safe to say that we're so back! Here are 12 of the most exciting superhero movies and TV series releasing this year:
1.Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
The new Marvel Animation series goes back to Peter Parker's early days as Spider-Man, juggling high school, friends, and fighting foes. Using a cel-shaded animation style that harkens to the comic book character's print beginnings, this 10-episode first season follows an alternate timeline to that of the MCU, where instead of being mentored by Tony Stark, Peter is mentored by Norman Osborn. Other characters, such as Harry Osborn, Nico Minoru, Lonnie Lincoln, and other familiar heroes and villains, help shape Peter's heroic journey.

2.Invincible Season 3
After the traumatizing events of season 2, Mark Grayson is trying to find his way back to being a "good" guy. Wrestling with his conscience, he's burying his head into work with the GDA, Cecil, the Guardians of the Globe, and his younger yet rapidly growing, half-brother Oliver. The threat of the Vitrulmites looms, though, as Omni-Man and Allen the Alien try to stop the Vitrulmites and get back to Earth.

3.Captain America: Brave New World
After inheriting the shield from Steve Rogers in Avengers: Endgame and coming to terms with that responsibility in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie is making his big-screen debut as the new Captain America. This film follows our new Captain America as he works alongside (and against) the newly-elected President Thaddeus Ross as international forces threaten his office. With the introduction of Red Hulk, this film also brings back early MCU players from Hulk's world of characters. Also, I think Red Hulk for Valentine's Day is inspired!

4.Daredevil: Born Again
The Devil of Hell's Kitchen is reborn on Disney+, bringing the characters and actors we loved from the Netflix series. Time has passed, and people have changed, or so Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk think. It seems like everyone is getting into public office or cleaning up their act, as Fisk enters the mayoral race in New York City and Murdock tries to fight for justice solely in the courtroom. However, the past is hard to escape, and past selves aren't the only familiar faces that appear in Hell's Kitchen as it boils over.

5.Thunderbolts*
What are the Thunderbolts? Are they some kind of Suicide Squad?! Well, yeah, actually. Assembled under CIA Director Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Thunderbolts* continues the new trend of giving former villains a second chance in the MCU. Following a lost and listless Yelena, she finds herself teaming up with her adoptive father Alexei, disgraced U.S. Agent John Walker, Bucky Barnes, former mind-controlled Taskmaster, the now-stabilized Ghost, and Bob (a.k.a Sentry). I'm hopeful this ragtag group will also provide much-needed levity and dimension to these previously underutilized foes.

6.Ironheart
Riri Williams made her mark helping the nation of Wakanda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Now, audiences will get to know the MIT genius as the probable Iron Man successor in the MCU. Returning to her hometown of Chicago, Riri crosses paths with Peter Robbins (a.k.a. The Hood), a mystical misfit whose existence introduces Riri to the struggles between technology and magic.

7.Superman
Look up! It's a bird, it's a plane, it's...James Gunn's Superman. While I'm mourning the end of the very excellent Superman & Lois (streaming on Max), I am always game for more Superman. Gunn has a knack for assembling incredible actors to play smartly connected ensembles, and I'm hoping this one soars. This Superman movie seems to focus on a younger Clark and Lois, but this time shows the Kryptonian's many super friends, loved ones, and, yes, his furry friend Krypto by his side.

8.The Fantastic Four: First Steps
After starring in Gladiator II together, Pedro Pascal and Joseph Quinn are co-starring in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the long-anticipated MCU film featuring Marvel Comics' First Family. Directed by Matt Shakman, who directed Disney+'s WandaVision, this story is set in the "retro-futuristic" 1960s where this heroic team must protect their world from iconic villains Galactus and the Silver Surfer. Can't wait to see how this retroactively impacts the MCU going forward!

9.Peacemaker Season 2
Aside from the show's incredible opening title dance sequence, I can't wait to see this team of weirdos back together. Gunn teased that Season 2 will go down a different route than the already outrageous Season 1. The upcoming season will also introduce the live-action Rick Flag Sr., who will have some words with Peacemaker after what happened to his son, Rick Flag Jr., in The Suicide Squad.

10.Eyes of Wakanda
Wakanda is a nation full of technological advancements and impressive tactical military forces. Of course, the Dora Milaje are heavily featured in the Black Panther movies as the Wakandan King's bodyguard service. Eyes of Wakanda will focus on the Hatut Zaraze, or "War Dogs" — highly-trained and specialized Wakandan spies sent on international secret missions. In this series, they'll retrieve and protect extremely valuable Vibranium objects from their enemies and bad actors.

11.Marvel Zombies
First introduced in What If...? Season 1, the fan-favorite zombies storyline ended on a cliffhanger with the surviving heroes en route to Wakanda, continuing their search for a cure for this zombie virus that has claimed humans and heroes alike. At the end of the episode, a zombie Thanos is shown wielding the Infinity Gauntlet in Wakanda. Finally, years after that episode, Marvel Zombies picks up where it left off, and the series focuses on different heroes, such as Shang-Chi, Scarlet Witch, Ms. Marvel, Kate Bishop, Yelena Belova, Ironheart, and their allies as they figure out how to save their world.

12.Wonder Man
Talk about meta. Wonder Man follows Simon Williams, a superpowered actor-slash-stuntman who becomes the latest television leading man...playing a superhero. Directed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' Destin Daniel Cretton, the series takes an insider's peek at Hollywood, bringing along fellow thespian Trevor Slattery for this wild ride of stops, starts, and success.
