The 10 Biggest Spoilers for What Will Happen in 'Wicked Part 2,' for Those Who Can't Wait
"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links."
Status after watching Wicked: can't stop holding people's fingers (while also holding space for the lyrics of "Defying Gravity"), have memorized that one dance where Ariana Grande is marching around Shiz slapping her books, and just furiously Googled "when is part two dropping and how dare they make me wait."
The answer to the aforementioned question? November 21, 2025. If that sounds absolutely intolerable, you are several solutions.
You can watch Wicked on Broadway.
You can watch Wicked Part 1 again in theaters.
You can settle in for some spoilers and find out what happens next. But before we get into it, it goes without saying that....
WICKED SPOILERS ARE AHEAD
Elphaba Is Now the Wicked Witch of the West
Wicked Part 2 takes place in the slightly distant future where—thanks to Oz propaganda (ozganda, if you will)—Elphaba has a reputation for being generally evil...a falsehood which has been perpetuated in large part by Glinda, who has cozied all the way up to the Wizard and Madame Morrible.
Meanwhile, everyone in Oz is wandering the streets shrieking/singing "Save Us From the Wicked" with absolutely no chill. They are also convinced Elphaba can be melted by water which, as you may have guessed, becomes important later.
Fiyero Is Still Down Bad
This man is low-key obsessed with Elphaba and deep down just wants to spend his time cuddling baby lion cubs in the forest with her. But, somewhat awkwardly, he's now captain of the Wizard's guards—which means he's technically in charge of capturing the love of his life? Meanwhile, Madame Morrible is trying to market Glinda and Fiyero as Oz's "IT" couple and tells everyone they're engaged (even though no one bothered to inform poor Fiyero).
Oh, and if you're wondering how Glinda is feeling about Elphaba: While she's upset that her friend is missing and internally conflicted, she's also trying to convince herself she "couldn't be happier" since she technically got everything she wanted (status, Fiyero, and favor with Madame Morrible).
Nessarose Is the Ruler of Munchkinland
Nessa and her ruby diamond slippers are in charge of Munchkinland, and it turns out she's...not cut out for the job! Like, Nessa is a full-blown tyrant, all because she's single-mindedly obsessed with Boq staying by her side. But things change when Elphaba visits Nessa—who refuses to help "harbor a fugitive" and goes off on her sister for never using her powers to help her.
Elphaba ends up casting a spell on Nessa's slippers so she can walk, but I think we can all agree this is a pretty problematic storyline that may go down differently in the film. Actor Marissa Bode actually told Teen Vogue that "There will be movie magic and just magic in general, but just not in the way that I think a lot of people think it might be. There have been changes that I think are great in terms of representation in a healthy way, but I don’t think I can say more than that."
Boq Becomes the Tin Man
Once Elphaba casts her spell on Nessarose, Boq is basically like "I! Have! Had It!" and announces he's leaving Munchkinland to make one last play for Glinda. Nessa, in a full-blown Boq-induced panic, tries to cast a spell from Elphaba's book to make him love her, but she shrinks his heart instead. Elphaba steps in to save Boq's life but turns into the Tin Man in the process. Not ideal.
Elphaba Finally Reunites With Fiyero
This goes down when Elphaba is in the Emerald City trying to get the Wizard to set his monkeys free. When he finally agrees (and seems somewhat repentant/pathetic), Elphaba is this close to joining forces with him—until she finds Dr. Dillamond caged and realizes he can no longer speak and barely recognizes her.
The Wizard calls in his guards—including Fiyero, who leaves with Elphaba so they can go sing into each other's eyes and kiss. Meanwhile, a devastated Glinda hatches a plan to "smoke Elphaba out" by spreading a rumor that Nessa is in trouble. However! When Glinda runs away with a headache after concocting the plan, Madame Morrible decides to do her one better and creates the tornado that brings Dorothy to Oz.
Nessarose Dies Via Flying House
And (just as Madam Morrible predicted) Elphaba is drawn to the scene of the crime, where she happens to find Glinda and they get into an awkward fight. (Which, fair, since Glinda straight up stole her family's heirloom shoes and gave them to some random stranger.) At this point, the Wizard's guards attempt to capture Elphaba, but Fiyero gallantly shows up to save the day! Elphaba escapes....buuuuut Fiyero is captured by the guards.
Fiyero Turns Into the Scarcrow
Elphaba attempts to cast a protection spell to save Fiyero, but due to the fact that she is honestly not that good at magic (I said it!), he turns into a scarecrow. A simple mistake anyone could make while casting a spell, I GUESS. Meanwhile, Elphaba is extremely in her feelings and decides she's going to give up magic and stop attempting to do good because it only hurts those around her.
Elphaba Stages Her Death
Glinda shows up to the castle where Elphaba is briefly holding Dorothy (girl just wants her shoes back) and tells her an old school village mob has assembled lead by Boq. Elphaba decides to fake her death via melting—remember those untrue water rumors?—and tells a none-the-wiser Glinda to take the Grimmerie (her spellbook) and keep the whole "wicked witch" myth going while doing her best to be good. Elphaba leaves behind hat and her mom's green bottle, which Glinda takes to Oz.
Surprise! The Wizard Is Elphaba's Dad
Which Glinda discovers when she takes the green bottle to Oz and the Wizard is like "oops that's mine." Poor dude has a total breakdown over his lost daughter as Madame Morrible realizes that Elphaba's powers stem from having parents from both worlds. Glinda ends up arresting Morrible and kicks the Wizard out of Oz entirely. She then takes control of Oz as Glinda the Good.
Fiyero and Elphaba Reunite
And escape Oz together without telling Glinda they are secretly alive. Bittersweet, but mostly just sweet for those of us who 'ship these two. The end!
