Zoë Kravitz Praised Channing Tatum's Performance in 'Blink Twice' After Their Breakup
The pair called off their engagement in October.
Despite calling off their engagement two months ago, Zoë Kravitz still has plenty of nice things to say about her ex-fiancé and creative collaborator Channing Tatum. Speaking with fellow director Matt Reeves in a special Directors on Directors issue of Variety, Kravitz was quick to divulge that Tatum was "the first person I thought of for Slater King," a.k.a. the lead character in her directorial debut, Blink Twice.
"I knew that the character needed to be somebody who we think we trust, especially because you don’t believe Naomi [Ackie] is getting on that plane if it’s someone who is immediately insidious," she explained. "I wanted to weaponize his charisma. We’ve never seen him do something like that."
Given that the pair reportedly had an amicable break-up, perhaps Kravitz's words of praise come as no surprise. Still, it's refreshing (and rather unusual) to witness a Hollywood split with zero "bad blood." Kravitz and Tatum were together for three years and engaged for one before ending their relationship this fall.
“There was no dramatic falling out between Channing and Zoë. They really just grew apart and decided it was best for them to go their separate ways,” a source told Page Six when the split was first announced back in October. "[They] both handled the breakup very maturely [and] came to the mutual realization that they were better off friends than romantic partners."
Though things were relatively quiet post-break-up, Kravitz officially reclaimed her presence on the red carpet in a cut-out revenge dress on December 2 at the 2024 Gotham Awards. As to whether the pair will collaborate again the future? Only time will tell.
"We got to work together and go through hard things together and support each other, and it was beautiful," Kravitz told People at the Los Angeles premiere of Blink Twice. "To get to create something with someone that you love is probably one of the most gratifying things," Tatum added.
