Blake Lively Hit With ‘C-Word’ in Awkwardly Timed Netflix Special
Blake Lively got an unwelcome Christmas gift from Netflix Friday—days after an astonishing lawsuit that revealed a smear campaign against her.
“Torching 2024: A Roast of the Year,” Netflix’s year-end comedy special, poked fun at this year’s major news events, from CEO Brian Thompson’s murder, Diddy’s legal battles, drone sightings and more.
But it was notably taped just a few days before this past weekend’s explosive report that revealed Lively’s legal action against her It Ends With Us co-star, Justin Baldoni. Lively alleged that Baldoni sexually harassed her on set, and later hired a PR firm for a smear campaign against her public reputation.
It seems like the memo was a bit too late for the special, which was taped on Dec. 17 and released on Friday.
“The word c--t was trending this year,” comedian Hannah Berner said during the roast, before adding, “I don’t think Blake Lively was that bad.”
In response, Berner clarified on her Instagram story Friday that she does, in fact, “support” Lively.
“My joke in the Netflix roast was filmed before news of the lawsuit,” the comedian wrote. “To be 100 percent clear, I support Blake xoxo.”
As public perception shifts on Lively, the joke came at an inopportune time.
“EVERYONE owes an apology to Blake Lively for dragging her back during the it ends with us press tour,” wrote one X user after the lawsuit news. “Blake Lively can have a problematic past and still not deserve to be sexually harassed,” wrote another. “Hope this helps!”
Lively told The New York Times, “I hope that my legal action helps pull back the curtain on these sinister retaliatory tactics to harm people who speak up about misconduct and helps protect others who may be targeted.”
