Yerin Ha, Charlie Vickers Crime Drama ‘The Survivors’ Among Netflix’s 2025 Australian Slate
Netflix has unveiled its 2025 Australian content lineup, featuring three new productions spanning mystery, comedy and social commentary.
“The Survivors,” a moody coastal crime drama, unites Yerin Ha (“Bridgerton,” “Dune: Prophecy”) with Charlie Vickers (“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”) in an adaptation of Jane Harper’s bestselling novel. The series, set in Tasmania, explores the reverberations of tragedy in a small seaside community when a decades-old mystery intersects with a present-day murder. Industry veteran Tony Ayres heads the project as showrunner and executive producer through his Tony Ayres Productions banner.

The streamer is also diving deeper into comedy with “Son of a Donkey,” a six-episode series featuring the return of viral sensation Superwog’s beloved characters. Writers, directors, and stars Theo and Nathan Saidden are set to bring their signature comedic style to the standalone series, which follows Theo’s chaotic journey toward independence. When faced with the harsh realities of adult life – including mounting driving fines, complex daddy issues, online scams, and an unexpectedly large dose of therapy – Theo and his best friend Johnny find themselves navigating familiar misadventures while discovering the true meaning of family. The Melbourne-shot series, produced by Princess Pictures, represents Netflix’s investment in bringing established Australian comedy talent to a global platform, with production support from VicScreen through the Victorian Screen Incentive.
Completing the slate is the previously announced “Apple Cider Vinegar,” a limited series examining the early days of Instagram wellness culture. Emmy nominee Kaitlyn Dever leads an ensemble cast including Alycia Debnam-Carey in this story of a wellness empire built on shifting sands. Created by Samantha Strauss and directed by Jeffrey Walker, the series is a co-production between See-Saw Films, Picking Scabs and Dever, set to premiere Feb. 6.
All three productions have received substantial backing from VicScreen through various funding initiatives, with “The Survivors” securing additional support from Screen Tasmania and “Apple Cider Vinegar” receiving post-production funding from Screen NSW.
