Two years ago, Massachusetts mom Lorraine Deacy ordered custom mugs from an Etsy shop as Christmas presents for her children. Upon opening, she discovered one mug bore the images of a couple she didn’t know. “I opened it and one of my mugs was in there,” Deacy exclusively tells PEOPLE, “but then the other one was this adorable mug with this cute couple that ready ‘Scott and Nate: The Best is Yet to Come 2022.’ ”

The shop allowed her to keep the misdelivered mug, which became a conversation piece in her home. “I decided that I would just drink out of it every day and I have,” Deacy says. “Everyone has always asked because I keep it on my counter, and they ask who it is. I just say, ‘I don’t know but I love them.’ ”

After two years of curiosity, Deacy finally shared her story on TikTok. The Internet’s response was swift and overwhelming.

“Within five hours, the Internet found them and people seem to really like it,” Deacy reveals. “I didn’t think they would find them that night but they did.”

Scott and Nate — the couple featured on the mug — reached out to Deacy through TikTok, marking their first interaction. “We’re happy you love our mug! Nate + Scott,” they wrote in the comment section. “I'm literally dying right now! How random! My sister sent us these mugs two years ago for Xmas and they never arrived. Now we know why! Love that you kept them!” Scott added.

Nate, describing his initial reaction to seeing Lorraine's TikTok exclusively to PEOPLE, says, "I was blown away. I was on my way home from the gym ... Scott showed me this video and I was completely caught off guard."

The connection quickly blossomed into a budding friendship. “We’ve talked via text messages and I think they’re great. They’re so sweet,” Deacy shares. Nate emphasizes how special it has felt that Lorraine cherished their mug: "The fact that a stranger who saw happiness in those photos on the mug ... that was something she wanted to hang onto ... it feels pretty special. She could've tossed it and called it a day, but she didn't and here we are."

The story took an even more heartwarming turn when Scott and Nate extended a wedding invitation to Deacy. “After speaking with her and getting to know her, she's very in line with who we are so we thought, 'Why wouldn't we invite this woman to our wedding?' " Nate shares.

Despite the mug being a conversation piece for visitors, Deacy adds she never expected to find friendship through TikTok, but, “you can really find friends in really random and surprising places."
