The Block's Dan and Dani announce passing of newborn daughter: 'Insurmountable grief'

The Block’s Dan and Dani Reilly have shared the devastating news that their 10-day-old daughter Billie has passed away. The couple, who competed on two seasons of the reality show in 2012 and 2013, took to Instagram on Friday morning to post a photo of themselves in the hospital by Billie’s side.

They told their followers that her full name was Billie Vera Reilly and she was born on December 8 and died on December 18.

“It is with insurmountable grief that we share the news that our daughter Billie, has passed on from this life and into the next at just 10 days young,” they wrote.

“In Billie’s short time in this world, she taught us an intensity of both love and pain we never knew possible. She taught us what really matters. Billie was so wanted, so loved and she made us parents… and what an honour it is to be her mummy and daddy. She will always be our daughter.

“It’s clear to us that Billie was far too good for this world but if we know anything for sure, it’s that Billie’s legacy will make an impact greater than all of us.”

The couple went on to thank ‘Billie’s Besties’, the nurses, doctors and NICU staff at The Royal Women’s Hospital, and encouraged their followers to make a donation to the hospital in Billie’s honour.

“The nurses, doctors and staff in NICU are some of the most incredible people to walk this earth and we’ll be forever grateful for the care and love they gave our girl, and us,” they wrote.

“Lastly, we understand there will be questions, and so many of the answers we just don’t have yet. We’ll share more in time but for now we ask for privacy as we work through this together and with our loved ones.”

They ended the post with the quote: “‘You look so pretty, pretty like the sun. I could watch forever, while you shine on everyone.’ We love you Billie.”

The Block stars send their love

The post was quickly flooded with comments from fellow Block stars, with 2024 winner Charlotte Harry writing: “This is truly heartbreaking, I’m so deeply sorry for your loss!! Sending you all the love and prayers.”

“Ohhh Dan and Dani, I am so so sorry. This is absolutely heartbreaking. Our thoughts and prayers are with you! Beautiful Billie girl. Sending our love,” Madeleine Harry added, followed by Haydn Wise who said, “Omg I’m so sorry guys. She was beautiful and always will be. Sending lots of love to you both”.

Dan and Dani first appeared on The Block in 2012 when they were dating and took home $448,000. They then returned the following year for The Block All Stars and won $220,000 profit, and Dan officially became the show’s foreman in 2015.

The couple tied the knot in 2018 after nine years together and currently host the web series Dan vs Dani on 9Now.
