Girlfriend's shock discovery after DNA test with boyfriend
A woman has revealed the awkward way she discovered she was actually dating her cousin, after receiving a DNA test kit as a gift for her birthday.
Taking to TikTok to share the unfortunate tale, she shared her boyfriend was actually the one to give her the test as a present but it spectacularly backfired.
TikTok user ‘mattilathehun’ explained in the clip - which has now been viewed almost 480K times - that her mother was adopted and she had no relationship with her biological father.
“For my birthday last year, my ex got me one of those DNA test kits,” she said.
“So I was mostly interested in the health information, to see if there was anything to watch out for.”

"So we got the results back a month later and I was looking through the list of relatives and I turned to my boyfriend, and I said ‘hey this is pretty nifty, I’m related to someone who has the same name as you’”.
“And that’s how I found out I was dating my cousin.”
In subsequent videos the woman said she suspects they are more likely second cousins, which means they share the same great, great-grandparents.
The pair have since broken up.
Plenty of other people revealed their shock in the comments, while others shared similar stories.
"OMG I would die on the spot," one person said.
While another wrote: "My aunt and uncle didn't find out they were cousins until they had been married 10 years!"
