With fall finally in the air, it’s the perfect time to curl up at home with a good book, show or movie. If you’re a fan of all three, you’re in luck — there are a number of new series and films based on books premiering this fall and winter!
Many literary-inspired shows, including Heartstopper, Tell Me Lies and My Brilliant Friend, have new seasons dropping in the coming months. And many new movies and TV shows that were books first will be making their arrival, too.

'The Perfect Couple'
Elin Hilderbrand’s 2018 novel is the basis for the new limited series starring Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber about a wealthy couple living on Nantucket. As they plan for a luxurious beachside wedding, a body washes up on the sand and its investigation leads to everyone becoming a suspect.
The Perfect Couple premieres on Netflix on Sept. 5.
'The Chicken Sisters'
Grab a snack before hitting "play" on this one. Based on the novel by K.J. Dell’Antonia, this series set to premiere on Hallmark+ on Sept. 10 follows two competing chicken restaurants in a small Southern town. When news of a cooking competition arises, the restaurants' respective owners are thrown into the throes of even deeper competition with one another. The show stars Schyluer Fisk, Genieve Angelson, Lea Thompson and Wendie Malick.
'Three Women'
Lisa Taddeo’s acclaimed nonfiction book is a gripping journalistic account of the sex lives — and the complicated dynamics that go along with them — of three American women. Its upcoming TV adaptation, starring Shailene Woodley and Blair Underwood, will premiere on Starz on Sept. 13, with new episodes airing weekly.
'Uglies'
Scott Westerfeld’s young adult novel about a dystopian society whose members undergo forced cosmetic surgery once they turn 16 was the inspiration for the upcoming Netflix film starring Joey King, dropping on Sept. 13. 'The Lives of Lee Miller'
Lee Miller, a photographer and war correspondent who chronicled World War II for Vogue Magazine, is the subject of this nonfiction book written by her son, Antony Penrose. Miller’s story was adapted into a film starring Kate Winslet and Alexander Skarsgård, which sees its U.S. release in theaters on Sept. 27.
'The Outrun'
This film, starring Saoirse Ronan, is based on the memoir of the same name by Amy Liprot, which recounts the author’s experience returning to her hometown in Scotland’s Orkney Islands after battling alcoholism and addiction. The film will be released in theaters nationwide on Oct. 4.
'Stinger'
Robert McCammon’s 1988 horror novel Stinger is the basis for the upcoming Peacock series Teacup, starring Yvonne Starhovski and Scott Speedman. It follows a group of neighbors trapped on a rural farm who are faced with a dangerous threat. Premiering on Oct. 10, the show will release new episodes until Oct. 31.
'Disclaimer'
Based on the 2015 novel by Renee White, this Apple TV+ psychological drama stars Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline, and follows a journalist (Blanchett) who receives an anonymous novel manuscript that threatens to reveal her darkest secrets. The series will premiere on Oct. 11, and new episodes will air weekly until Nov. 15.

'Cross'
Fans of James Patterson’s thrilling Alex Cross series are surely delighted that the beloved books are finally coming to Prime Video on Nov. 14. Starring Aldis Hodge as the titular character, the show follows Cross, a forensic psychologist and detective skilled at catching murderers.

'Conclave'
This 2016 novel by Robert Harris details the papal election following the death of the Pope. The film, starring Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci and Isabella Rossellini, will hit theaters in November, and sees Cardinal Lawrence (Fiennes) in the midst of a conspiracy that could have a drastic impact on the Catholic Church.
'Here'
Richard Maguire’s 2014 graphic novel inspired this heartwarming film, which follows a group of people who inhabit the same plot of land for generations. Starring Tom Hanks, Kelly Reilly and Robin Wright, the movie will arrive in theaters on Nov. 1.
'Interior Chinatown'
Charles Yu’s 2020 novel is the basis for this Hulu series starring Jimmy O. Yang. The show centers Willis Wu, an actor who's stuck in a cycle of playing stereotypical roles, until he witnesses a brutal crime and begins to unravel a web of secrets. Interior Chinatown premieres on Hulu on Nov. 19.
'Wicked'
The first part of the highly-anticipated Wicked film, starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, will arrive in theaters in time for Thanksgiving on Nov. 27. Chronicling the stories of the two witches of Oz before Dorothy arrives, the movie and celebrated Broadway musical is adapted from the novel Wicked by Gregory Maguire, which is itself an adaptation of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum.

'Nightbitch'
This haunting movie starring Amy Adams is based on the 2021 novel by Rachel Yoder, and arrives in theaters on Dec. 6. Adams plays a mother who, inexplicably, believes that she’s transforming into a dog.
