This year, Pamela Anderson was in the running for her first Oscar nomination. Her role in Gia Coppola's The Last Showgirl received rave reviews and she became one of the year's "popcorn actress" comeback stories—alongside Demi Moore and Angelina Jolie, she was thought to be an unexpected Best Actress contender. While Moore earned her first nomination, Jolie and Anderson were passed over by the Academy.

While cinema-goers may have been surprised not to see Anderson's name on the list, she was not. “Oh my gosh, it’s not something I ever expected. Doing the work is the win,” she said to Elle shortly after the nominees were announced. “That’s what I like to do, and I think we can lose sight of that sometimes in this whole crazy awards season, but it’s nice to be recognized, and it’s all a bonus.”

Instead of hoping for an Oscar nod, it seems that Anderson was more than happy with her SAG nomination. “I couldn’t imagine [it] anyway. I’m happy for the SAG nomination, that’s [voted on by] your peers," she said. "That’s really cool. This has been a long road promoting this film.”

In the film, Anderson plays Shelly, an older Las Vegas showgirl, who reflects on her career in a challenging showbiz industry after learning that her revue is closing down after three decades. For Anderson, the role reflected her own experiences in the same industry, earning her new-found respect in an industry that had, for the most part, previously dismissed her as something of a has-been sex symbol.

"I was able to bring a lot of my own personal experience, my long life of dealing with beauty and glamour and aging and reassessing life choices. I got to bring my whole life into this role," Anderson said during a Variety conversation with Anora's Mikey Madison. And, as she explained to Entertainment Tonight, the film gave her the chance to look back on her own past in the industry: "Every time you do a project you're healing parts of yourself," she said.
