Why Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky Haven't Had the 'Hard' Divorce Conversation 1 Year After Their Separation
"It's not something either one of us obviously feel comfortable initiating. We just kind of let it go," Richards explained
Neither Kyle Richards nor Mauricio Umansky want to bring up divorce.
While appearing on the Dec. 17 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, 55, answered a fan question about her ongoing separation from The Agency founder, 54, and whether or not the two have discussed making their split official.
"That's not something that we have talked about yet," she said, before referencing her costar Sutton Stracke's advice to file. "The reason I didn't talk about that on camera is because that's obviously something I would have to talk about with him first."
"It just hasn't come up yet. We're good friends and we get along really well and I don't know, we just live separate lives," she added.
But when the time finally comes, Richards said the former couple will "obviously" discuss going their separate ways. When host Andy Cohen noted she and Umansky were probably "not that psyched" to bring up divorce, Richards replied, "Of course not."
"It's hard and it's not something either one of us obviously feel comfortable initiating," she continued. "We just kind of let it go and [we're] just really good friends and we care about each other and we get along ... it is what it is right now."

In July 2023, a source close to the couple told PEOPLE that Richards and Umansky had separated. Though the couple still lived together in the midst of their split, Umansky has since moved out to a place in West Hollywood, which Richards confirmed while appearing on a May 14 episode of the Bitch Bible podcast.
“I always knew when that day came it would feel strange. Very real all of a sudden. And that’s exactly what happened,” the Bravolebrity said at the time. “I’m used to having a lot of chaos and stuff going around at my house. The day that he moved out was just strange because I came home and I was like, 'everything's so quiet.'”

One year after their separation, a source told PEOPLE that the pair are currently “working on how to establish their individual lives while remaining connected as a family.”
The insider continued, “After being in a routine for decades, they have had a lot to figure out while navigating their new normal. Going through a separation has been challenging enough that no one is rushing to get a divorce.”
