Viral TikTok food trend divides: 'You're ruining the watermelon'
A delicious snack has gone down a treat with some viewers, but others aren't so sure.
A new food trend is taking off on TikTok, and while some have called it the "hottest snack of summer" others are put off by the fact it requires "so much work".
The recipe in question — by Feel Good Foodie's Yumna Jawad — has attracted over 1.3 million views in a matter of days.
"This is my son's favourite way to enjoy watermelons as fries! And the dip takes it to the next level," Yumna captioned the video.
Watermelon fries have been doing the rounds on TikTok since 2020, but this time, instead of cutting them into sticks, Yumna uses a crinkle cutter to make them extra appetising.
In a previous video she used lime juice, sweet yoghurt and honey topped with Tajin seasoning as dipping sauce, but she's introduced a new mix to her audience: yoghurt, strawberries and honey, which is blended into a smooth dip.
TikTok split over recipe
Scores of TikTok users praised the recipe with compliments including, "Nom nom nom. Looks amazing", "I need that in my life now", and "Looks so refreshing".

On the other hand, however, critics responded with comments like, "Why all this work for watermelon?", "You're ruining the watermelon," and "I prefer plain watermelon, otherwise the flavour is camouflaged by yoghurt and strawberries."
Other TikTok users have been embracing the crinkle cut watermelon and strawberry dip phenomenon, with notable accounts @recipes and @growingannanas sharing their own versions of the recipe.

In the hundreds of comments on Yumna's video, some people offered up tips of their own. "I would add feta cheese to that dip," one viewer suggested. "Lime juice on top instead of dip! TRUST ME," exclaimed another. "Try salt, it's the best," a third recommended.
