Venus Williams ; Serena Williams at the Super Bowl LIXEven Venus Williams is obsessed with Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl halftime show — but in her case, it's personal.
Hours after the rapper made waves with his explosive performance, the Olympian took to social media to applaud her sister and fellow tennis superstar Serena Williams, who made a brief but memorable cameo at the halftime show.
"You did that!!!," Venus wrote on X, reposting a backstage video of Serena posing for pictures.
Serena appeared for just a few seconds during the closing moments of the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show. After Lamar finally launched into his Grammy-winning Drake diss track, "Not Like Us," the camera flipped to show Serena crip walking, a dance she famously performed at Wimbledon in 2012, to celebrate her win against Maria Sharapova.
Highlighting the memory, Venus shared a clip of Serena's 2012 crip walk on her Instagram Stories, and followed it up with her sister doing the dance again, all these years later, this time on the Super Bowl stage.

13 years ago, Serena's celebratory dance made her the subject of backlash and derision, with critics slamming her for glamorizing gang violence and being inappropriate. "What Serena did was akin to cracking a tasteless, X-rated joke inside a church,” claimed Fox Sports’ Jason Whitlock.
Williams, whose older sister Yetunde Price was killed by a member of the Southside Crips gang in 2003, said at the time, "It was just a dance." Defenders have since slammed the backlash as racist and overblown. In the wake of her Super Bowl cameo, Serena hinted that she agrees.
In a behind-the-scenes video, she joked, "Man, I did not crip walk like that in Wimbledon. Oh, I would've been fined!"

Serena's Super Bowl appearance also held extra weight for those familiar with the ongoing beef between rap superstars, Lamar and Drake. Williams was linked with Drake from around 2011 to 2015. According to reports, she would later become a subject of Drake's 2013 track, "Worst Behavior" and years later, her now-husband Alexis Ohanian was dubbed a "groupie" in his 2022 song “Middle of the Ocean.”
Lamar lampshades these references in "Not Like Us," with a line warning that Drake "better not speak on Serena."
The tennis pro has hit back with a few jabs of her own. While hosting last year’s ESPY Awards, Williams poked fun at Drake, quipping, “If I’ve learned anything this year, it’s that none of us, not a single one of us, not even me, should ever pick a fight with Kendrick Lamar. He will make your hometown not like you. The next time Drake sits courtside at a Raptors game, they’re going to Forrest Gump him. Seats taken.”
