Puffer jackets have enjoyed a serious status upgrade in recent years, muscling their way up from the ugly thing on the side of a Saturday soccer field to a mainstream fashion must-have.

Now that it’s really getting chilly, more and more people are whipping out their puffer jackets and one that’s proving super popular is the $150 (or $130 with a free Uniqlo membership) Ultra Light Down jacket from Uniqlo.

It’s a classic longline puffer with a removable hood that’s perfect for everyday casual dressing but can also be styled up for a more polished look.

With options at Kmart for as little as $50, it certainly isn’t the cheapest option on the market, but it’s main positive - aside from being nice and toasty, which of course is essential - is that it can be folded into a small bundle.

It seems like an odd quality to value, but it comes in handy when you’re out and about and want to take it off, plus it makes it easy to pack for trips or to store over summer.

The puffer has great reviews online with one person saying, “Great jacket. Keeps me very warm considering my job is standing outside in any weather early in the morning.

Another shopper praised it as, “Warm and packable. Excellent for commutes!”

It also popped up in a Sydney mums Facebook group this week after someone asked for a recommendation for a puffer jacket for a weekend trip to Canberra.

“Just got back from Canberra, was -3 degrees at 7am!! Wore my awesome Uniqlo puffer coat and was super snug,” one person wrote in reply.
