The entertainment reporter looks set to take on a new role.

The Today show looks set for a shake-up as the network trials a new role for entertainment reporter Brooke Boney.

The star has been filling in as the morning program's newsreader in recent weeks while still reporting on entertainment gossip. She has been taking over from the show's sports and news presenter, Alex Cullen, so he can now focus solely on sports.

The Australian journalist, who was the newsreader on Triple J from 2016 to 2018, joined the Today show in 2019, working alongside veteran Channel Nine entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins.

Alex has been working at Today as sports presenter since January 2020 and replaced newsreader Tracy Vo two months later.

Channel Nine has not yet made an official comment regarding Brooke's move to newsreader.

It comes after Today announced a shake-up to its line-up in 2020, with Karl Stefanovic returning as host after he was axed from the program after an Uber driver leaked a private phone call he was having with his brother Peter Stefanovic.

He rejoined alongside former host Allison Langdon, who left Today last year to take over as host of A Current Affair after Tracy Grimshaw announced she was quitting.

Alex and Brooke joined the team as sports presenter and entertainment reporter respectively while Tracy Vo took on the newsreader role. Soon after Tracy quit Today and returned to Perth amid the Covid pandemic.

Sarah Abo took over from Allison as host alongside Karl earlier this year.
