Karl Stefanovic blasts Gladys Berejiklian live on radio: 'Basket case'
Today show host Karl Stefanovic has blasted NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian in a live interview on Perth radio, during which he praised the state's premier Mark McGowan for doing a "brilliant job" with his Covid response.
"That’s what freedom sounds like," Karl said to Pete, Matt and Kymba on Mix 94.5, after the hosts had teased him about being in the "greatest city in the world".
The seasoned presenter called the current "Covid vortex" in NSW "depressing", as the state continues to battle the Delta strain of the virus, before adding he thought Mr McGowan has done a "brilliant job" with his strict border rules and quick response to outbreaks.
"If you could keep it from coming in why wouldn’t you? … We’re in a state that’s let it run free and didn’t get locked down right in the first place," he said, calling out Ms Berejiklian’s Covid response.

"Our Premier has just completely and absolutely botched it."
The hosts joked they had the NSW Premier on the line, to which Karl then added: "Gladys it’s a basket case, you’ve stuffed it up!"
It's not the first time Karl Stefanovic has revealed his true thoughts about the current lockdown situation in Sydney.
The host recently admitted he was struggling to remain positive for Today show viewers as case numbers continued to surge.
"I'm sorry, I know I'm supposed to be on breakfast TV and all happy and stuff, but it's just not a happy time," he said last month.
He then shocked many when a bizarre behind the scenes moment from the show was shared on social media, showing him flipping the bird at entertainment reporter Brooke Boney, who posted the clip.
The moment was filmed during an ad break and did seem to leave Brooke looking less than impressed.
"Day 8,789,765 of lockdown," she captioned the post.
It comes as NSW announced another 1220 cases of Covid-19 and eight deaths on Tuesday. However seventy-four per cent of NSW residents have now received their first vaccination jab.
