"It’s a celebration of our shared journey through life. We all have unique paths, but at our core, we’re connected by the same hopes, dreams, and challenges that make us human," he continued.
McGraw, 57, added, "For me, this song is about seeing ourselves in others - recognizing our common experiences of joy, pain, triumph, and struggle. My hope is that when you listen, you’ll feel that connection and be reminded of the beauty in our shared humanity. Music has a way of touching our hearts and bringing us together. Let’s keep lifting each other up and moving forward as one human family."
McGraw's followers were quick to praise the song in the comments.
"I am so grateful for your music Tim and the little but do meaningful messages behind each and every song you release! I love your new song #PeopleLikeUs sooo much ❤️❤️❤️," wrote one fan.
"Love this song so much. This song reminded me way back when when in March of 1985 We are the world concert to bring awareness and togetherness. Beautiful song to open people's eyes on how we are all alike 👍👍💙💙," agreed someone else.
"I have a feeling these lyrics are going to end up on my wall next to Imagine and Humble and Kind. 😍," raved another person.
In the song, McGraw gives examples of people in different walks of life before pointing out their similarities.
"Mike's a pipeline welder, Kim's a drive-thru teller/Johnny's a drug dealer, Bob's a concrete sealer/Terry is a soldier, Tom's a church league bowler/We are liars and lawyers, lovers, sisters, brothers/People like us, watch the blues on TV/Get so angry, blame it on D.C./People like us, all God's children/If we're willing, we can be building/A tomorrow we can trust"
