Tim Allen Comedy Pilot ‘Shifting Gears’ Casts Maxwell Simkins & Barrett Margolis

EXCLUSIVE: The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers alum Maxwell Simkins and newcomer Barrett Margolis are set as series regulars opposite Tim Allen and Kat Dennings in ABC multi-camera comedy pilot Shifting Gears (working title) from 20th Television.

Written by Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully, Shifting Gears centers on Matt (Allen), the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt’s estranged daughter Riley (Dennings) and her kids move into his house, the real restoration begins.

Simkins and Margolis will play Carter and Georgia, the respective son and daughter of Riley and Matt’s grandchildren.

Allen and John Pasquin, who directs, executive produce Shifting Gears with the Scullys along with Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker and Rick Messina. Dennings is producing. Shifting Gears (wt) is produced by 20th Television.

Simkins was a series regular for two seasons on half-hour comedy series The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers for Disney+, opposite Emilio Estevez, Josh Duhamel, and Lauren Graham. He also was a series regular in the third and final season of Disney Channel comedy series Bizaardvark opposite Olivia Rodrigo. His other television credits include appearances on Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer, HBO’s Run, and A.P. Bio for Peacock. His film work includes lead roles in Netflix feature Home Team, opposite Kevin James and Taylor Lautner. Other roles include Netflix’s The Sleepover, Book of Henry for Focus Features, and Love the Coopers for CBS Films, among others. He’s repped by Pakula/King & Associates, Jordan, Gill & Dornbaum, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Yorn Levine Barnes Krintzman Rubenstein Kohner Endlich & Gellman.

Margolis is repped by Luber Roklin Entertainment and attorney Ryan Goodell at Yorn Levine.
