TikToker goes viral with genius photo storage hack: 'You just changed so many lives'

There is a simple way to backup all of those photos of your dog/baby/banana bread.

It's a common problem: you take a zillion photos of your kid, your dog or yourself (or maybe all three) and then get stressed out when your phone starts reminding you that its memory is almost full. Sure, you could scroll back to 2014 and start systematically organising and deleting your photographic keepsakes - but who has the time or patience?

To quote every cheesy infomercial from the '80s - there must be a better way!

Well, evidently, there is as one TikToker has shared.

In a clip that has been shared over 50,000 times, content creator Hannah Koumakis explains that she was 'today years old' when she discovered a simple hack for downloading all of her pics onto a hard drive.

"I was today's old when I found out you can plug your hard drive straight into your phone and save photos directly into a hard drive," said Hannah excitedly. "Let me show you."

Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle, Hannah explained that it was almost like a happy accident that she discovered the handy hack to begin with.

"I just looked down at my cords and realised that I had a USBC adapter to USB which I use to plug into my laptop," the content creator said. "I looked at my iPhone and wondered if it would work the same as my laptop... sure enough, it did!"

Hannah's followers were thrilled with the advice with the post attracting more than 6000 comments.

"You just changed so many lives," one person wrote, while another exclaimed, "I love you so much for this".

"WHAT?! I have been trying to figure out something like this for years," someone else added. "THANK YOU!!"

Among the praise was also some sage advice about how to ensure the hack didn't end in tears.

"Just don't use a hard drive that you've used for another computer or you'll lose everything," one person cautioned.

Another warned: "When you're removing the hard drive. Make sure you turn your phone off, otherwise, it may corrupt the drive when removing."

Others also pointed out that the feature is available on iPhone 15 only - so keep that in mind when trying the hack - which Hannah says she achieved with a WD Elements hard drive.

As for her reaction to how well the video has been received, Hannah said she's been really pleased.

"I think it’s great!" she told Yahoo Lifestyle. "A lot of Samsung users out there are having a laugh at us Apple Users though! Apparently, they had this feature for years, but it’s brand new to us Apple fans."
