The Voice performance that completely gobsmacked the judges
If there’s one thing viewers love about The Voice, it’s those jaw-dropping moments from the blind auditions.
We’ve come to expect the unexpected when the chairs swivel around and the judges see the contestants for the first time, but if you think you’ve seen it all you haven’t seen this.
One hopeful on last night’s episode may not have turned chairs, but they certainly turned heads when their identity was revealed.
Judges Boy George, Kelly Rowland, Guy Sebastian and Delta Goodrem were impressed when a powerful soprano voice belted out an opera air for one audition.
The high-pitched effort may not have been enough to turn any chairs, but once they did swivel around the judges could not have been more gobsmacked by the singer’s identity.
The delicate air had been sung by none other than 39-year-old Ben Palumbo, who greeted the judges with a ‘g’day’ as they expressed their astonishment.
“I’m so confused right now,” Delta said, while Kelly called for a ‘time out’.
Ben joked he was ‘just wearing very tight underwear’.
“I just didn’t expect a fit dude with a ‘mo,” Guy Sebastian said, while Boy George called it ‘the curveball of the century’.
Though no judges picked Ben for their team, they all agreed that he had a truly unique sound.
The performer’s social media reveals he sings in a range of registers, but his falsetto has people talking with the video being viewed almost 35k times on Youtube.
The Voice’s eighth season has caused a stir with former reality stars returning to the silver screen to try their luck in the blind auditions.
Australian Idol’s Lee Harding is set to appear on the show, and shocked fans with a dramatic transformation.
Australia’s Got Talent winner Jack Vidgen similarly had people talking, debuting a sleek new look which he credited with a penchant for fillers and not plastic surgery.
