The Project's Met Gala segment causes outrage for 'awkward' mistake
The Project has been called out by viewers for a major on-air mistake during a segment discussing the 2021 Met Gala on Tuesday.
While Carrie Bickmore spoke about the fact that Nicki Minaj boycotted the event because she wasn’t willing to get vaccinated beforehand, footage of Cardi B was shown instead.
“There were some notable absences including the one and only Lady Gaga, Sarah Jessica Parker and our fave Met fashionista Nicki Minaj,” Carrie said, while a video of Cardi in her iconic red dress from 2019 played.
Nicki Minaj and Cardi B famously have one of the biggest feuds in the music industry, including a physical altercation and allegations of leaking private phone numbers on the internet.
While Nicki announced that she wouldn’t be attending the Met Gala a few hours before the event began, Cardi B was also a no-show this year as she gave birth to her second child just over a week ago.

After the TV segment aired, Carrie admitted that she doesn’t normally tune in to watch ‘fashion’s biggest night’.
“I’ve never been into the Met Gala and today I was like, I’m into all of this. I want all of it now,” she told her fellow panellists.
A number of viewers quickly took to Twitter to point out the Channel 10 show’s glaring mistake.
“Did Carrie just call Cardi B Nicki Minaj?” one person wrote.
“Do you guys know you showed a clip of Cardi B when talking about Nicki Minaj? Awkward,” another added.
“You just said a notable absence was Nicki Minaj for being anti-vax while showing footage of the iconic Met queen Cardi B in her stunning red dress. This is blasphemy,” someone else wrote.
Carrie was also called out for mispronouncing the name of Vogue’s livestream co-host Keke Palmer, saying ‘Keh-keh’ instead of ‘Key-key’.
“I’m so embarrassed for you, you pronounced Keke Palmer’s name wrong,” one person tweeted.
The error comes shortly after The Sunday Project hosts couldn’t stop laughing about a technical mishap that left Jan Fran presenting in the dark.
“I just realised Jan Fran's light has gone out and it would be remiss of us not to point it out,” Tommy Little joked. “She's sitting at the desk in the dark!”
“We were trying so hard not to actually draw attention to this, but yes, here I am,” she replied.
“Jan Fran, that's what happens when you talk smack about the lighting guy before the show!” Tommy jokingly added.
