The Project’s Carrie Bickmore is typically cool, calm and collected but she suffered a bit of a blunder on-air on Monday night, which left her backpedaling desperately.

The 38-year-old mum-of-three - who recently returned to the small screen after seven months of maternity leave - made the awkward gaffe at the beginning of her interview with Aussie actor and Orange Is The New Black star, Yael Stone.

“Let's talk Orange Is The New Black, it's been a huge success,” the Gold Logie winner began.

“At one point it was the most watched show on Netflix. How are you feeling about it coming to an end?” she continued, inadvertently taking a swipe at the hit show’s declining popularity.

Yael, 34, who has played inmate Lorna Morello for six years, wasn’t about to let Carrie off scot-free.

“I guess I'm a bit sad that you said ‘at one point’. I guess I didn't know it wasn't anymore,” the Sydney native quipped.

“So I feel a bit sad, almost instantaneously about that,” she added, leaving the audience and the hosts a bit stunned.

Realising her error, Carrie immediately attempted to smooth things over with the Hollywood star.

“Ok, let's just remove that. Start again,” she said, a little flustered.

She amended her introduction by calling OINTB “one of the most watched shows on Netflix.”

Yael appeared satisfied, saying, “Yeah!” in approval.

No harm done

Despite the hiccup at the start, the remainder of the chat flowed smoothly with Yael leaving the panel and audience chuckling by recalling how happy she was when she landed the role back in 2013.

“I was thrilled to have a job... I was just happy to turn up. There were sandwiches, coffee and tea,” she said.

The mum-of-one revealed that she knew the prison drama was going to be a very special show from the beginning.

“It was clear from reading the pilot episode this was unlike anything else that had been written or produced,” she said.

Yael promised that fans of the show would be satisfied with the seventh and final season which lands on Netflix on July 26.

“I have no doubt that we will all be collectively weeping ... either joy or tragedy, we will all be weeping,” she said.
