Game of Thrones has come to a bitter end at last, after a final season dogged with mixed reactions and outright mutiny from fans.

At least one source of outrage has received a sweet resolution however, and amidst the many reactions flying in in the wake of the series’ conclusion, there is one moment that has everyone smiling.

Back in episode four, perhaps the most irate reactions came from the treatment of one good boy who didn’t even get a goodbye.

After the battle against the dead, Jon leaves for the South without so much as a pat on the head for his Dire Wolf, Ghost and we thought the doggo would never get the thanks he deserved.

“Pet the damn dog, Jon. Jesus Christ,” was how one viewer summed up the situation at the time.

In true Game of Thrones fashion however, we were dead wrong.

The final episode came with dozens of unexpected twists and turns, but the one that has fans cheering is the reunion between Jon and Ghost.

In the episode’s final moments Jon returns to the North, and along the way finally gives the companion he’s had since he was a puppy the pat we’ve been screaming for for weeks.

The two journey then north of the wall together and as much as can be expected in a Game of Thrones universe, appear to live happily ever after, and we’re not crying, you are.

Fans have taken to Twitter to celebrate the beautiful moment.

As debate rages over other key moments in the series’ final episode, this scene is the one thing that fans seem to be able to agree upon.

We’ve learnt not to expect them, but at least we got one happy ending before we said goodbye to Westeros forever.
