The Block's Maddy and Charlotte's 'secret' exposed in leaked video: 'Damaging their character'

They’ve been on the outs since they first entered The Block midway through the competition, but tensions between newcomers Maddy and Charlotte and the rest of this year’s cast reached an all-time high during Wednesday night’s episode. The original contestants were furious when they discovered a video revealing that the sisters were professional house flippers, as they had previously been told they worked in finance.

Haydn’s wife Chelsea had uncovered the footage after being sent on a mission by House 4’s Kylie to find some “dirt” on the House 1 team. The video featured Maddy and Charlotte renovating a 1950s weatherboard cottage and promoting various hardware brands, and their co-stars were furious.

“I don’t even know who they are, let alone all of a sudden they’re brand ambassadors and they’re doing these ads, and then how many are there of these? Who are they?” Kylie remarked.

“Straight away them hiding it is just f**king damaging their character,” Brad said, while Courtney added, “It’s just dumb”.

“You came out, you had the opportunity to create relationships with us and you didn’t do that, and because of that, that’s jarred our relationship,” Mimi shared.

Who else has a secret on The Block?

Maddy and Charlotte’s decision to not disclose their side hustle certainly isn’t the first time someone’s had a secret on The Block. Season six couple Phil and Amity hid a third bedroom from the rest of the teams, season 15 winners Mitch and Mark secretly changed their room plans, and season 19’s Brett didn’t tell anyone he’s a qualified tiler.

Meanwhile, Maddy and Charlotte aren’t the only team this season with an advantage in the competition thanks to their career in the real world. Kristian is an electrician, Ricky is a plumber, Brad is an electrician and plumber, Grant is a landscape business manager, and his wife Courtney is a furniture designer.

Best mates Ricky and Haydn also kept quiet about trying to hire last year’s winning auctioneer and agent before filming even began - yet they were one of the most vocal teams to call out Maddy and Charlotte’s ‘secret’.

“They’ve lied about who they are, what background they’ve got, and the experience they’ve got,” Haydn said. “Who knows what else?”

Fans took to social media to call out the contestants’ “mean” behaviour towards Maddy and Charlotte, with many arguing that the sisters never technically lied because they work in finance as well as flipping houses.

“I don’t see what the big deal is. Some of the boys are trained tradesmen, pot calling the kettle black,” one person wrote. “The girls only renovate, they don’t have experience in styling so they are new at that like some of the others.”

“My theory is that they are all seriously threatened by the girls and jealous and will bring them down however they can,” another added, while a third said, “It’s high school behaviour and shouldn’t be condoned by Channel 9. I’m surprised Haydn would be supporting this”.

“To accuse them of lying to their faces is a bit over the top,” someone else remarked. “Not mentioning something is not the same as lying. It looks like no matter what, the rest of the contestants are dead set on not liking the girls. None have made an effort to get to know them.”

“Scotty [Cam] told them when they arrived not to say anything,” a different user pointed out. “They were following his instructions. He set them up in a way for more drama. He knew what would happen.”
