The Block's Maddy and Charlotte reveal reason behind shocking act: 'Important'
EXCLUSIVE: The sisters share what they were really thinking when Kristian and Mimi asked for help.
The Block has been thrown into chaos this week as a truck breakdown caused the teams’ scheduled plaster delivery to arrive a day late, meaning that they might not complete the largest spaces in their houses - their living and dining rooms. House 5’s Kristian and Mimi were most at risk of presenting an unfinished room on Sunday as their plasterers failed to show up and they’ve struggled to lock anyone else in.
After complaining that they “don’t know what to do”, Kristian decided to try his luck and see if House 1’s Maddy and Charlotte could lend some of their plasterers as they had a large team on hand. The sisters admitted in their piece-to-camera interview that the situation was “a little bit funny” considering Kristian had previously ‘stolen’ their tradies when they first arrived in the competition, however, they decided to be the bigger people and help out.
Mimi gave the girls a big hug when they said they could assist, while Kristian called them “lifesavers” and teared up in his interview with producers.
“We’re just very grateful after Maddy and Charlotte gave us some plasterers for tomorrow because they didn’t have to do that,” Kristian said. “They could’ve said, ‘If they don’t get plastered, that’s one less thing we have to compete against’.”

Viewers took to social media to applaud Maddy and Charlotte on their “heartwarming” act, with one person writing: “Well done girls you, just proved you’re the bigger people.”
“Didn't think I could like them any more, I was wrong,” another added, while a third said, “They showed their characters. Very proud of them”.
“Well, haven't the girls just shown maturity,” a third wrote. “And I think Kristian breaking down quite possibly [was] him realising how badly they and the others have been treating them. The girls could have done payback, but that's not them.”
Maddy and Charlotte reveal why they decided to help
Speaking with Yahoo Lifestyle about the incident, Maddy and Charlotte admit they immediately wanted to help their co-stars as “it was really important to us to treat people kindly” during filming.
“There was absolutely no way that we were going to treat someone like the way that we were treated,” Maddy shares. “We were like, if we can help someone, we absolutely want to help them. And we wanted to show people who we were.
“It was an example of how we could be like, ‘Hey guys, you're not making an effort to get to know us, but we are kind and we're generous’. We wanted to extend the olive branch and go, ‘Hey, we actually care about you. And if you gave us a chance, maybe you'd get to know us’.”
The sisters add that they “want everyone to succeed” in the competition and they’d hate to be the reason behind one team’s downfall.
“We knew that would be the difference between them finishing a room and not finishing a room, and we weren't going to be the people to stand in the way of them not finishing a room because we want to see them win as well,” Maddy continues.
“I think you live a much happier life if you’re kind to people. I wouldn't have been able to sleep at night knowing that I had purposely disadvantaged someone else and I could have helped them.”
Are Maddy and Charlotte friends with anyone in the cast?
While they currently appear to be on the outs with all of their co-stars on The Block, Maddy and Charlotte tease that viewers will see some friendships develop as the competition progresses and they continue to “treat people how you would want to be treated”.
“There are people that we have built relationships with, and maybe more so post-show or more so later in the season when there is a situation that does highlight people's behaviour and makes them maybe reconsider how they were treating us,” Maddy says.
“And so I guess for us, it was a little bit like, we're going to be the bigger people and we're gonna enjoy these people for who they are and what this experience is. So there are people that we do talk to now, just because we've chosen to put all that meanness and the nastiness behind us, but there are still other people that don't choose to invest into us as well.”

When asked what they expect the cast dynamic will be like at the upcoming auction, Maddy asserts that she and Charlotte are on “speaking terms” with everyone but they’re unsure what to expect.
“I'll speak to anyone but whether they'll speak to us, I don’t know,” she remarks.
