The Block's Foreman Dan reveals why some houses failed at auction
"There was just a feeling about that house."
The Block's Foreman Dan has revealed why he believes some houses failed to make much money at auction, while others made life-changing sums.
Steph and Gian made a record-breaking $1.65 million from the $5 million sale of their house, as well as an extra $100,000 in prize money.
Eliza and Liberty also walked away with over $1,000,000 in profit, however, the other couples were not as lucky, with Leah and Ash having to pass their property in after failing to meet the reserve price.
Dan told Nine that he believed the "lopsided" auction result was due to the properties' sizes.

"We haven't seen a house like [Steph and Gian's] in a long time on The Block," Dan said. "It just flowed, it was high end, the detailing was there."
"Gian spent a lot of time with the quality of the painting. There was just a feeling about that house. When you walked in, you just wanted it."
"I always said throughout the show that the sheer size of Houses 4 and 5 and their block size would be hard to beat," he added. "I just think back to when the contestants actually chose the houses, Houses 4 and 5 were the last to be chosen.
"It really just goes to show that if you want to win The Block, you've really just got to do your research, know the area and know what people there want."
The Block fans share which teams they want to return for season 20
It comes after Yahoo Lifestyle exclusively revealed earlier this week that a team from this year’s season of the reality show is expected to be amongst the yet-to-be-announced 2024 cast.
An insider told us: “There is still some chatter about bringing back some celebrated contestants for the 20th season but applications are still open for newbies. So the rumour is it will be half newbies and half returnees.”
If this is true, it would be the fifth time The Block has brought back former contestants after All-Stars in 2013, Fans v Faves in 2014, Triple Threat in 2015, and Fans v Faves in 2021.
Fans have since taken to social media to speculate which season 19 team will most likely return to The Block.
“Hope it’s Eliza and Liberty,” one person wrote, while another added, “Would love the girls again!”.

“Hope it’s Steph and Gian,” a third shared, followed by someone else who replied, “No they won enough money. It should be House 1, Leslie and her hubby [Kyle]”.
“Probably Kristy and Brett to redeem themselves,” a different user replied, with one fan agreeing there's a good chance it will be them because they didn’t win as much money as their competitors.
“I guarantee it's Leah and Ash,” another shared. “On auction night they didn't get anything (except the car and The Block wages). This will be the reason they bring them back.”
