Sweet Magnolias Season 4 Adds Jodi Benson, Voice of The Little Mermaid — What’s Her Connection to Maddie?

TVLine can exclusively reveal that Jodi Benson, the iconic voice of Ariel in Disney’s The Little Mermaid, is recurring in Season 4 of Netflix’s Sweet Magnolias, appearing opposite JoAnna Garcia Swisher, who portrayed the beloved princess in live-action form on ABC’s Once Upon a Time.

And the two are guaranteed to share plenty of screen time, as Benson is playing Iris Maddox, the mother of Maddie’s (Garcia Swisher) boyfriend Cal (Justin Bruening). Fortunately, this won’t be a monster-in-law situation; Iris is described as “amiable, loving and easygoing,” which viewers will see when she visits Serenity for Halloween.

So, what does the future hold for this couple? “They fell in love quickly, and it was this swooping, wonderful gift in their lives. Then the dust settled, life happened, and they had some things to grapple with,” Garcia Swisher told TVLine last season. “They’re catching their breath and enjoying life, celebrating that they made it over a big hurdle. I’m excited to see what the future holds for them.”

As previously reported, Sweet Magnolias returns to Netflix on Thursday, Feb. 6 with 10 episodes that take viewers “from Halloween to Christmas, with surprising laughter, unexpected heartbreak and renewed resolve along the way,” per the streamer’s official logline.

Along with Garcia Swisher and Bruening, additional series regulars returning for Season 4 include Brooke Elliott, Heather Headley, Logan Allen, Anneliese Judge, Carson Rowland, Dion Johnstone, Brandon Quinn, Jamie Lynn Spears and Chris Medlin.
