Tonight’s episode of Survivor 48 on CBS will feature a tribe swap in which the players are told to “Drop your buffs!” and then immediately reorganize into new tribes. Whether such a moment happens on the highly anticipated season 50, however, is completely up to viewers.

That’s because the question of a pre-merge tribe swap will be part of the second round of season 50 fan voting, which will be put out to viewers during tonight’s episode as Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans (which will air in early 2026) continues to take shape. Host Jeff Probst will kick off the voting during tonight's installment, and people can then to go Survivor50cbs.votenow.tv to vote.

On the tribe swap question, fans will have two options to choose from. The first option will read: “I want the tribes to switch. I want to force new alliances and test old ones — challenging players to prove they can survive in any scenario.” The second option will read: “I do not want the tribes to switch. I want alliances to grow naturally, without disruption — strong bonds should be built and rewarded, not broken.”

But that is not the only thing viewers will be voting on in this round of categories. They will also be selecting the final four challenge for Survivor 50 from among three options. It’s a strong bet the “Simmotion” challenge will be one of the possibilities, since it has served as the final immunity contest for the Tocantins, Cambodia, David vs. Goliath, Winners at War, Survivor 42, and Survivor 44 seasons.

Finally, fans will also be voting on how much power advantages should have in the game. They will be able to choose between Minimal Power, Strategic Power, or Dynamic Power, and will be given explanations as to what each one means.

The first collection of categories was revealed during the Feb. 26 Survivor 48 season premiere. Then, fans voted on the season 50 tribe colors, whether the players should get rice, and if the show should ditch the final four fire-making. Viewers also got to select whether the program should return to a live finale in Los Angeles or continue with the after-show filmed immediately once the final Tribal Council in Fiji concludes.

Of course, none of these results will be revealed until the Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans players actually take to the beach in a few months. And then we’ll find out how important all that pre-game fire-making practice really was.
