Sunrise's David 'Kochie' Koch reveals cheeky detail about his replacement
Kochie has assured viewers his replacement will be different in a couple of ways.
Sunrise’s David ‘Kochie’ Koch has hinted at who will replace him as host of the breakfast show after spending more than two decades at the helm.
The 67-year-old made the shock announcement earlier this week that he will be leaving Sunrise on June 9, with his replacement set to be revealed on Monday.
During an appearance on Nova’s Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie on Friday morning, Kochie made a cheeky remark about who will be taking over his empty seat at the desk.
“I can guarantee you this, that my replacement will be younger and better looking,” he teased listeners, before taking a dig at hosts Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald and Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli.
“I was going to say you were both in the running but then I just had another look at you!” he joked. “That counts you two out!”

When asked about what’s on his bucket list after leaving Sunrise, Kochie revealed that he and his wife Libby want to travel to Europe and walk the Camino de Santiago.
“We want to have a house in Portugal,” he added. “We want the flexibility to take a couple of months off if we want to at any time.
“The only thing is, Lib is a bit worried because I go to bed at a quarter to 8 and she sits up and watches TV by herself for two and half hours. She told me, ‘I’m going to have to share the remote with you now!’.
“That’s our big fear that we’re going to spend all this time together and go, ‘Hmm, I’m sick of you already’.”
Who will replace Kochie?
While Seven has remained tight-lipped on who will be replacing Kochie on the breakfast show, fans have been placing their bets on two likely frontrunners for the hosting position.
Former Olympic sprinter and regular fill-in host Matt Shirvington seems like a natural fit for the spot, but speculation has also surrounded a media personality who recently signed with the network.
Celebrity vet and I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! host Dr Chris Brown is slated to join the network next month, but no word has emerged yet on what his new role will be.
Meanwhile, Kochie is expected to remain a familiar face on Seven with more daylight appearances and a focus on finance reporting.
“I’m not dead, I’m just working business hours,” he said on Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie. “It just feels right to get a bit more flexibility back in my life.”
