Sunrise stars Nat Barr and Edwina Bartholomew on dealing with trolls
Since Sam Armytage left Sunrise in March, Natalie Barr and Edwina Bartholomew have become closer than ever as the breakfast show’s respective co-host and newsreader.
The two women have now opened up about the increased spotlight on them and how they deal with online trolls, emphasising that it's important for them to “block out the hate”.
“I think the easiest thing is to block them and not get sucked in,” Nat told New Idea.
Meanwhile, Eddy’s opinion on receiving hate and criticism on social media has changed since she became a mum to her daughter, Molly, in 2019.
“I used to weigh into it a lot more and fixate on it, but it can be really bad for your mental health,” she explained.
“I take the same approach as Nat now and I tend to block, occasionally I engage if I think it’s informative… But I don’t go further down that rabbit hole because it’s a fruitless waste of time.”

Eddy announced live on Sunrise in August that she’s expecting her second child with her husband, Neil Varcoe.
“In developing news, news that will be developing news, news that will be developing for the next six months, we will be having another baby,” Edwina said on the show.
While she admitted that she knows the sex of the baby, she has decided to keep it a surprise from the public.
The 38-year-old has now revealed that she often turns to Nat, who is a mother of two sons, for advice as they are “similar in terms of parenting”.
“In the mornings in makeup, we sit there for an hour and we can chat about parenting, or what’s going on with her boys or my family. So it’s really nice to have that relationship,” she told New Idea.
“I’m in awe now with what happens with bringing up kids these days,” Nat added. “I was in Eddy’s position 20 years ago, so I am always shocked with what’s new – there are so many new inventions.”
The pair’s interview comes shortly after it was announced that their former Sunrise colleague Sam Armytage would be making her return to Channel Seven next year.
Sam, who now lives in the country with her husband, Richard Lavender, will feature as a special guest on the upcoming season of Farmer Wants A Wife alongside host Natalie Gruzlewski.
“I'm thrilled to be joining Farmer Wants A Wife in 2022,” she said in a statement. “I've always been a huge fan of the show and of country people, and I know first-hand that falling in love with a farmer is just about the most wonderful thing you can do.”
