Sunrise star tipped for major promotion after successful year: 'Appeals to all'

The presenter has clearly won viewers over.

She may have only joined Sunrise at the beginning of this year, but it appears Channel Seven has some big plans in store for roving reporter Katie Brown.

Katie, who is currently filling in for weatherman Sam Mac while he’s on paternity leave, has been tipped to replace sports presenter Mark Beretta in 2025.

Woman’s Day reports that the 32-year-old journalist is currently being trained to step into Mark’s role on the breakfast show once his newly signed two-year contract ends.

“Katie is just a country kid who appeals to all audiences for her no-nonsense style,” a source told the publication.

The insider added that “a few people behind the scenes have quietly voiced that Mark's flashy lifestyle might not always resonate with viewers”.

“The irony in all of this is that Beretta is one of Katie's biggest supporters and has almost been a mentor to her,” they continued.

Mark, 57, recently signed a new contract with Sunrise for just two more years, which is surprising given his long tenure on the show.

The father-of-two first joined the program in 2000 as co-host alongside Georgie Gardner before becoming the sports presenter in 2004.

Meanwhile, Katie has already begun filling in for Mark whenever he is away and has received enormous praise on social media, including from Mark himself.

“Great job KB!” he commented on her Instagram gallery.

Mark's sad personal news

The reports come just one month after Mark announced that he and his wife Rachel have split after 22 years of marriage.

“At the start of the year, after a great deal of reflection and 22 years of marriage, Rach and I came to the conclusion that a separation was best for us,” he said in a statement to Yahoo Lifestyle.

“We remain good friends, and our two children and grandchild remain our focus and priority as we move forward with love, dignity, and respect.”

Mark and Rachel first met in 1999 after their friends set them up on a blind date, and married in 2001.

They share two teenage children, 19-year-old Ava and 16-year-old Dan, and one grandson, Arlo.
