Sunrise presenter announces break from the show: 'Long time coming'

The host shared that he's very excited to take the time off.

Sunrise presenter Sam Mac has revealed he will take a break from the show after spending much of his time travelling to different regions of Australia to cover the weather.

Sam and his partner Rebecca James welcomed their daughter Margot into the world last year, with the presenter taking one month of parental leave so Rebecca can return to work.

"She’s been thinking about it for the past few months and now that Margot is over a year old she’s ready to properly get back into the workforce," Sam told 7Life of the decision. "It’s my turn to be getting Margot up, feed her and basically becoming her personal assistant/servant."

He added, "It's been a long time coming."

Sam shared that he was excited to take Margot to the zoo and aquarium and enjoy lots of little moments together.

"She’s walking now which is awesome but it’s a bit daunting because we have to childproof the house … but really exciting times," he said. "Margot’s changed so much even in the past couple of months. So it’s super-exciting to have some proper quality time with her."

It comes after the presenter shared that he had taken his 100th flight for work last month, though that total has since gone up to 112.

Sam recently shared a sweet video of himself playing guitar for Margot, with clips from when she was one month old and more recently after turning one. In the video, Margot lies across the top of his guitar as he plays The Temptations' song 'My Girl', but with "Margot" replacing the words "my girl" in the song.

"Looks like we have a new Dad/Daughter tradition," he captioned the video.

Same friends and followers thought the video was adorable, with one user writing, "You're gonna need a bigger guitar when she's 10. She's such a little doll."

"Heart melting, beautiful Margot," another said.
