“My character’s journey launches off in an unexpected way and…he may or may not end up with someone who he completely had never considered before,” Stephen tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “He actually finds a potential new friend in someone else we’ve seen on the show before, and that’s kind of the catalyst for Ben’s journey in season four.”

However, Yahoo Lifestyle can confirm that Alan Jukes is returning to reprise his role of Cole Doyle. “Alan Jukes is back and in fine form, playing Cole, and whenever he’s on set everyone’s pretty excited because he’s such a funny character,” Stephen says. “He makes all those scenes pretty memorable.”

The 41-year-old is sure fans will enjoy the new season, with the star being impressed by the top-notch writing when he received his scripts.

“Our fans can expect a good laugh, a couple of nice surprises and certainly a couple of tears,” he hints. “It’s shaping up to be a good season finale as well.”

Stephen addresses a possible return to Summer Bay

Stephen played Darryl 'Brax' Braxton on Home and Away from 2011 to 2016 and quickly became one of the show's most popular characters. Since his departure, fans have constantly called for his return to the soap.

After his exit, he nabbed a slew of Hollywood roles, including a supporting role in Me Before You alongside Game Of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke and The Hunger Games’ Sam Claflin. However, in recent years, he has returned to Australia for some big roles in shows such as Royal Flying Doctor Service, and The Newsreader.

He admits that he would be open to returning to Summer Bay, but only for a short stint.

“[I could return] for a cameo or something down the track. Yeah, I love that show. I loved working on it, I love the people that were involved when I was there,” he admits. “That was a good time [in] my life but I think I was happy where that character left off.”

“And yet, I guess people go back and do cameos and things all the time, so you never know.”

As for the future, the star can't confirm if he will return to Hollywood or stay put in Australia, as he's prepared to travel anywhere for roles that speak to him.

“It doesn’t bother me where I work. I’ve been lucky that some really excellent jobs have come up in Australia,” he says. Due to his work schedule over the past three years, he hasn’t auditioned for many US roles, as he simply doesn’t have the availability.

“I’ve still got my agents over [in Hollywood] sending me stuff, so I’d certainly have a crack at anything anywhere.”
