Stephen Colbert Spots How Trump 'Cranked Up The Crazy' With An 'Unexpected New Theory'

Stephen Colbert on Wednesday mocked Donald Trump, who he said “cranked up the crazy and then ripped off the knob” in the president-elect’s wild presser in which he appeared to blame Hezbollah for the deadly Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

The “Late Show” host referred to Trump’s “unexpected new theory” before playing a clip of the president-elect, who, when asked about pardoning those convicted for their roles in the attack, seemingly blamed the FBI and the Iran-backed militant group in Lebanon for the riot.

“Hezbo-wha?” said Colbert before breaking out his impression of the president-elect.

Colbert then played the rest of the comments from Trump, who said “we have to find out about who, exactly,” was involved in the attack as “people that did some bad things were not prosecuted.”

“Yeah, I’m looking at one right now,” he said of Trump as the “Late Show” crowd cheered.

“So the people who did Jan. 6 are both misunderstood Proud Boys that you’re pardoning and Hezbollah. That would explain the J6 Choir’s new anthem, ‘God Bless And/Or Death To America.’”
