Seth Meyers Dares ‘Coward’ Trump to Make Good on Wild Threat
President-elect Donald Trump hinted at a press conference Tuesday morning that he might be open to seizing Greenland (and possibly Panama) by force.
In his first “Closer Look” segment of the new year, Seth Meyers responded to the president-elect’s recent statements.
“I’d like to say something to Donald Trump about his threat to take Greenland by military force that might take some of our viewers by surprise,” Meyers said. “Do it!”
“Do it, you coward,” Meyers continued, in a voice that felt reminiscent of his friend and fellow SNL alum Andy Samberg. “Go get Greenland, you coward. Fix my shower and give me Greenland. Don’t show me your face ever again. I’m calling your bluff, bro.”
“Stop making these crazy promises,” Meyers said, before repeating, “Do it. I want it. Go get it.”
“Why won’t you get it?” Meyers taunted. “You afraid of Denmark, bro? You starting to remember they got those big ass dogs?”
He showed a picture of a tough-looking Great Dane.
“By the way, this is how you know Trump’s not going to take on China. He talked a big game, but now he’s backing down and threatening Greenland instead,” Meyers said.
The Late Night host predicted that Trump will “keep downgrading” his threats to “smaller and smaller countries.”
“Russia’s going to do whatever it wants while he threatens Peru,” Meyers joked. Doing a Trump impression he added, “‘We’re coming. We’re going to get Machu Picchu back where it belongs.‘”
Meyers also joked about Trump’s suggestion that NHL legend Wayne Gretzky should be the new Canadian Prime Minister.
“I think Trump picked Wayne Gretzky because that’s the only Canadian he knows,” Meyers said. In his Trump voice he added, “I also think the Prime Minister of Ireland should be the Lucky Charms mascot.”
