Soap Star Francisco San Martin Dead at 39

Actor Francisco San Martin has died. He was 39 years old.

San Martin passed away at his home on Thursday, Jan. 16, according to a statement the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office shared with several outlets. The coroner reported San Martin died by suicide.

The actor was born in Spain on Aug. 27, 1985, and began acting at a young age, becoming involved with children's acting troops while growing up in Montana, per Forbes. He moved to Madrid as a teen, where he continued to pursue a career in the spotlight, starting with modeling gigs and acting classes before appearing in TV and film productions in Spain.

One of San Martin's first big gigs turned into one of his longest-running credits, starring in 59 episodes of the NBC soap Days of Our Lives from 2010 through 2011, acting as Dario Hernandez and Javier Rodriguez. His role as Hernandez came to a close when the character moved to Argentina for a job promotion and was later replaced by Guiding Light alum Jordi Vilasuso, per TVLine.

He then went on to accept a small role in the 2013 musical Behind the Candelabra–starring Michael Douglas, Matt Damon and Scott Bakula–and in 2017, portrayed Mateo in 16 episodes of the CBS soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful.

That same year, San Martin appeared in seven episodes of The CW hit Jane the Virgin as Fabian. His most recent credits include two shorts, Hotter Up Close (2022) and Dot (2022).
