SNL Video: Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton-Style Rap Gets Interrupted by a Rambling Donald Trump
We almost saw Lin-Manuel Miranda perform a full song this week on Saturday Night Live — but then somebody else stole the spotlight.
Miranda slipped back into his Hamilton role of Alexander Hamilton on SNL as he joined the rest of the Founding Fathers to sign the Declaration of Independence. He sang about the new nation being formed — “In America, we will never have a king!” — but he was interrupted by a victorious Donald Trump, played by cast member James Austin Johnson, who chimed in: “Never say never.” Miranda and his fellow Founding Fathers then had to stand in silence as Trump droned on about everything he’s accomplished since he took over as President… five whole days ago.

He crowed that “DEI is over” under his administration, announcing that “workplaces must go back to looking like the TV show The Office: mostly white people, but with one funny Black guy who’s having a really bad time… We need to bring back Stanley culture.” He insisted that America is going back to having two genders — “one to work, and one to cook” — and made fun of the Founding Fathers for wearing wigs and tights: “What a weird way to dress, right? A little zesty.”
Trump also took the time to mock Miranda for being relegated to the background: “He got tricked into coming here, and now he’s frozen on stage… Look how bad he wants to do a rap.” He even walked right up to Miranda’s face, causing Miranda to break a little when he called him a series of nicknames: “Laura Linney… Lin-Manuel Miranda Cosgrove… You’re such a Miranda.”
