Sheer Looks Are Trending at 2024 Toronto International Film Festival Red Carpet With Jamie Lee Curtis, Daisy Edgar-Jones and More
Sheer dresses and see-through blouses continue to be to go-style style statements on red carpets, including at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, which launched on Sept. 5 and continues through Sept. 15. Celebrity guests showed off the look, which could range from dark and edgy to effervescent and whimsical.
The sheer fashion trend has taken over red carpets and fashion runways in 2024, from spring fashion week shows to Oscar parties to the Met Gala.

Naomi Watts
The actress wore a textured, sheer black dress from Christian Dior’s pre-fall 2024 collection on Sept. 10. The polka dot long-sleeve gown featured decorative tassels that began sparsely on the bodice and became denser towards the skirt’s hem. Underneath the sheer layer, she wore a black bra and high-waisted hotshorts. Her look was styled by Jeanann Williams.
Lupita Nyong’o
Lupita Nyong’o attended the TIFF Tribute Awards on Sept. 8 in a sheer black Gucci gown. Her sleeveless dress featured sequined vertical stripes cascading down the bodice and floor-length skirt, with sheer fabric in between. The look was styled by Micaela Erlanger.
Daisy Edgar-Jones
Daisy Edgar-Jones wore a pastel blue sheer pleated Gucci dress, which had a plunging neckline, one-shouldered cape and train. She was celebrating the premiere of “On Swift Horses,” her 1950s-set romantic drama co-starring Jacob Elordi.
Ellie Bamber
Ellie Bamber wore a black dress with a form-fitting top, see-through skirt and dramatic ruffles that traveled from her right shoulder to her ankles.
Sasha Calle
Sasha Calle wore a long-sleeved black sheer ruched dress with a gold buckle belt and black stilettos. She co-stars in “On Swift Horses” as a neighbor and love interest.
Jamie-Lee Curtis
Jamie-Lee Curtis wore a bright red sheer button-down blouse, a reptilian black leather skirt, black fishnets and black pumps. She stars in “The Last Showgirl” as Pamela Anderson’s character’s best friend.
Beatrice Grannò
Beatrice Grannò wore a black off-the-shoulder sheer ruched dress to the premiere of “Daniella Forever,” where she plays the film’s namesake Danielle opposite Henry Golding. She finished off the look with a layered pearl necklace, fuchsia eye shadow and coral lips.
