Selena Gomez Sings of an Ex Apologizing on New Album. Fans Believe It's Closure After Justin Bieber: 'Happy Without You'

In I Said I Love You First, her new collaborative album with fiancé Benny Blanco, the Only Murders in the Building actress sings about an ex apologizing in a dream. Fans think that her song "You Said You Were Sorry" could be about Justin Bieber, who she dated on-and-off again for eight years.
"Don't think about you/Happy without you/More now than I ever was" Gomez, 32, sings in the pre-chorus, refer to an unnamed ex.
"But I had a dream/You said you were sorry, said you were sorry/Sorry for everything/That you put on me, that you put on me," she continues in the chorus. "Our eyes were bawling rain/We finally both forgave ya/I had a dream, that's all it was/Yeah, that was enough for me."

"And then her new album is coming up in which [rumors] are her 11th track "You said you were sorry" is a reply to Justin. I hope it's true lol. Can't wait ❤️," they wrote.
Fans praised the song online once the album dropped on March 21. "You said you were sorry is really about giving yourself closure and just letting go and moving on 🥹 really needed that," one user wrote. Others shared gifs alluding to the out-of-body experience they've had listening to it.
Others appreciate the honesty and raw feeling she shared. "Yes girl!!! Get it ALL OFF YOUR CHEST and say it with your chest. So proud of you. Thank you Benny for loving her and making her feel safe enough to get it off her chest," someone wrote on the lyrics' video comments online, praising Blanco, 37.

"I love that she’s able to express these emotions to him & he can help her create art out of the trauma instead of breaking her down or feeling insecure about it," another said.
"have had dreams about exes apologizing to me and yeah it's so freeing even if i don't need that apology from them anymore," a third fan wrote.
Another song, "Don't Wanna Cry," also details the pain of a relationship that's over. "I should cause a scene for s--- you have done to me/The saddest part is we both know that I would never leave," sings Gomez, who has said her new body of work was inspired by both her and Blanco's past experiences. "You know how it goes, everybody knows/I’m just another hand you hold."

Throughout the album, fans were also excited about the album's seventh track, "Cowboy," which also features GloRilla. "You want me/To act like the bad girls/Put you on your knees/Kiss me like we’re meant for each other/Say you’ll never leave," she sings in one verse.
The chorus is especially steamy. "Put your hands on me/Ride it like a cowboy/Run you out of town, boy," Gomez croons.
"'Cowboy’ is my version of ‘Good for You’ but now," Gomez said in a joint interview with Blanco, 37, for Spotify. “I don’t like to share it a lot, but I’m a very sensual person. And I love love and sometimes I put that into words and I can feel sexy, and I love that feeling.”
